Hi Capt. Nemo's!

Just wondering... has anyone of you ever seen a passengerliner in the open waters... or... anywhere in fact?
And if so, do they have some fixed routings or places where I am bound to find some?

Regards and... keep the 'm straight!

Christiaan

I once came across a large, unescorted convoy. It was made up of nothing but small and coastal merchants, and one big ass liner.

It was right around BE65, and it was in 1940.

I saw once a couple weeks ago in AM49 heading east. I was in a good position with good weather so I was able to sink it. On another occasion I was in the Med. I got a report of an enemy small convoy. When I intercepted it was made up of one Black Swan frigate and two passenger liners! I was in a prime spot. An easy 48,000 tons! Shortly after my game crashed and my save became corrupt. :stare: :damn: :hulk:

I usually only see them in convoys in late war normally of the coast of canada or there's one in the TF that leaves the Port of Spain in Late 43.There a few liners in port too there's 2 in Southend in 39 1 in NY and I was informed there's suppose to be 1 in Freetown.

In convoys, yeah. I've seen a bunch. Can't remember if I ever sank any, but if I did, I bet they were neutrals.

Oh well. Sorry. :P

They give you 850 renown when you sink 'em so well worth it!!!

I've seen several in Convoys near AL19 and AM52 (Rockall and Malin) and one down near Gib but always they've been American, and given that for me it's still 1940, it wouldn't be such a good idea to sink 'em!!!

In an old career I sank one flying the Merchant Navy ensign near New York in 1942 whilst on Paukenschlag patrol. Took 4 fish to bring her to a halt and then had to wait for the convoy to leave her before surfacing to finish the job with the 105mm.

I got one in the AM?? sector in mid 1940. It was all alone, heading towards England and doing 25kts. Lucked out by being in her path. Brought her to 4kts with the first fish and finished her off with 2 more. Thats the only time I've seen one in 5 careers.

once ran into a convoy with one in the middle in 1940 - put two torps into bow before escorts took an interest so thought would surface and finish her off when they left. Well I surfaced to find it steaming in the middle of the convoy ,bow down at 8 kts :damn:

Second time was a troop convoy close to Gibralter - 8 troopships/liners and about same no of escorts doing about 14 kts

Sank two before being pounded to destruction by 3 black swans :o

There was a post on here a while ago with the route ( liner alley ) that they take from US to UK in the game but I never found one on it tho the author said he had sunk 1 then an hour later sunk another in same spot

I have seen three so far in my current campaign. All flying US flags so we left them alone.

Started out in my type II and am in a VII now posted out of Brest, fall of 1940. If I remember correctly I saw most in convoys around the southern coast of Ireland.

5 torps. 1st one hit the Engine Room and set her on fire so that she got stuck stationary as the convoy buggered off. Then I surfaced and it took another 4 to sink her... jeez!

It was the worst fog i Had ever seen in my first career. Before we had radar, I surfaced the boat to transfer my fish. Lo and behold WO shouts ship spoted bearing 0 degrees close distance, speed fast I go and look and BAM 300M dead ahead at 25Knots was a Liner. Needless to say it hit me causing alot of dammage that i had to repair and was unable to locate her afterwards. I believe she was in a convoy
