Sixty five years ago today one of the world’s greatest warships, HMS Hood met her destiny in a gun duel with the German battleship Bismarck during the Battle of the Denmark Straits.
The over 1400 men that perished when the “Mighty Hood” blew up will forever be heroes to those that read and reread the story of the sinking of the Bismarck.
Most of the Bismarck’s crew were themselves only days away from joining their foes in one of histories greatest naval sagas.
More men died on those 2 ships than were killed at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941.

Their memory will be eternal!

Long live the Mighty Hood!

A lucky hit on the Hood sealed her fate and yet the same thing or so happen to the Bismarck. We the British had no choice we had to meet the threat of the Bismarck what ever the cost. A sad day for us and a good day for the Bismarck but days away from meeting her own fate, the age of Battleships was over this was the age of the Aircraft Carrier.
