Pacific Storm is a game about the war in the Pacific between the U.S. and Japan. It has the elements of a global strategy, tactical game and an arcade air simulator. Playing either for the United States or Imperial Japan, you walk through a dramatic sequence of large-scale naval and air military operations. The game covers the time from 1940 - 1948. As you play, you can develop new technologies, build and deploy new weapon systems or even change history. Thanks to a smooth and seamless combination of strategy, tactics and simulator, you are completely free to take whatever strategic or tactical decisions you consider best or abandon for a time all strategy and tactics and inhabit any of your units so as to take part in the fighting personally. Steel Monster's gameplay combines exceptional depth and scale of the strategic mode, superior authenticity of the tactical mode and exciting dynamics of the simulator.

The game offers:

• Three genres (strategy, tactics and simulator).
• Large-scale naval and air operations in the Pacific from 1940 - 1948.
• Capability to change history as the global campaign develops.
• Large selection of accurately reproduced historical scenarios.
• Units that possess learning capabilities.
• 3D graphics.
• Ability to develop new technologies - from increasing the power rating of aircraft engines to guided missiles technology, biological and nuclear weapons.

Additional features:

• Weather (fog, wind, rain) impact in the strategic mode.
• Truly global map of the Pacific, including Japan, Australia, western United States, Oceania and part of India.
• Simple and intuitive game control in the strategic mode, allowing effective base management, mission planning and fuel supply management.
• Several time control options (slowdown, acceleration, controlled pause).
• Ability to establish new naval bases in the course of the game.
• Reconnaissance and surveillance using aircraft, ships and radar systems.

Your fleet in Pacific Storm includes battleships, aircraft carriers, destroyers, cruisers, missile cruisers, submarines and torpedo boats as well as tankers and transports. The aerial war is conducted using fighters (at first - piston-powered and at later stages - jet fighters), attack aircraft, torpedo bombers and strategic bombers. There are 86 types of units, all carefully modeled from WWII-era aircraft and ships, in the game. Also, you can develop new technologies and create new weapons systems, which may almost instantly overturn the global balance of power. About 100 technological improvements (upgrades) enhancing combat effectiveness of warships and military aircraft are available. In addition to the strategic mode with its 127 different Pacific zones and 40 naval bases, you can play 20 historical battles, including the Battle of Midway, the shooting down of Japanese admiral Yamamoto's plane and the battle for Guadalcanal.

Pacific Storm is all about battleships and aircraft carriers - the giants of naval warfare during WWII - about captains and admirals, as well as rank-and-file soldiers and sailors of the two great military powers, that locked in a life-and-death conflict. In Pacific Storm you can become Commander-in-Chief, responsible for the lives of thousands of servicemen and the destiny of your country, commanding officer of a small squadron or even an ordinary military pilot, fighting in the sky over the Pacific. And, gradually, as you play, from all these separate bits and pieces will emerge one impressive picture of the great and fierce battles fought in the Pacific during WWII.

Hm, I was really interested in this game until the first reviews were saying the concept doesn't work out.

Has anyone news / reviews that can convince me to be this?

It looks intriguing!

I am going to take a very close look at this game.
The concept is what I have been looking for lately.
I sure hope they can pull it off. It seemed to get
very good reviews at the 2006 E3 Convention.
The options they give the player are great!
Of course, something new like this will have many
bugs and setbacks possibly. I hope to see it succeed.

The largest US-based video games portal—IGN.com—has nominated Pacific Storm by Lesta Studio on Best Strategy Game award as ultimate Pacific naval war game. The game was presented along with Company of Heroes (Relic/THQ); Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II (EA); Medieval 2: Total War (Creative Assembly/Sega).

This is where I'm headed.

Get the demo and try it. Has great 3D tactical play on a massive scale. Ships, planes are all drivable. It is an RTS, but doesn't necessarily have to be played that way if you just want to get into the action.

Should be out August 1. It's already out in Russia. An addon has already been written and will be available for the English version too.

It's where I'm headed for my next game. It will be moddable too, as we've already been modding the demo. Get the demo and try it.

I dunno what the problem is, Jim. That pic at the top of the thread looks sorts like SH3 to me, but it does have the little unit icon triangles like Pacific Storm does..

Here a screen for you from Pacific Storm. Lots of action. Many planes in the sky, lots of ships possible (well, not in the demo). Lots of flack, antiaircraft, etc. I'm sold.

I ,for sure, didn't get ANY shots like that in the demo! All I saw was a top
down view of different triangles & stuff with a somewhat detailed map.
If the demo doesn't accurately portray the game details, how is the player
supposed to tell if he wants to buy it or not. Maybe I just didn't hit the
right keys but I tried to access everything the game let me. I just didn't get
very far in doing it. In fact, I couldn't do much of anything but watch?????

Didn't you leave strategic leyer for tactics? You can swith to, wenn a battle starts. This game has both strategic layer were you can manage you forces and tactical one where you can pilot planes or use flak guns on ships.
