View Full Version : Mines Mines and Mines
I'm not even sure, but mines are just from MODs, right? I played the stock game for a year and never ran into one, so I'm assuming so.
I did a search but didn't see anything. (I may not be a very good searcher, sorry)
So I'm stuck in Lock Ewe and basically can't get out. (Not sure how I got in, really.)
I always play Dead is Dead, but after playing stock for so long and now patching/modding up, I figure I'll give myself a mulligan or two here. And since I sank a battleship (my first) on this first mission, I'd really like a fighting chance to get home, but I'd rather not just surface and ESC-Return.
What can you do about these? I think they must be mines as I do seem to be able to sail over the subnets at about 8 meters.
I figure some of you must have a clue because you all seem to hit ports, but as is I can't imagine ever trying again because I don't know how to dodge these suckers.
My only guess is to wait for daylight and use the opservation scope to 'drive' through them.

you wont be able to surface and hit esc because you are in the enemy view - what mods do you have ? SH3gen will tell you where the minefields are.Save game download and run that and will give you the locations of the minefields if there
I was in Loch Ewe myself last week and got out no problem - altho the Nelson I hit with 4 torpedos was sat on the bottom but didnt count as sunk  still I got home so cant have it all

Mines sucks. Check my post "Last patrol".
DID is the good way to play. You'll think twice before doing something stupid.
Greetings,

I'm using GW / SH3 Gen / SH3 Cmnd
I'm not detected, so I can ESC. Just don't want to.
So yeah, I am doing Gen. And it does have two Xs at either side of the mouth of the port. Not really sure if that means a mine may be there, or if it means mines are laid out all along the stretch between those points or if those are mine fields.
I'm no where near the mine field Xs.
I agree, mines suck! But, it's part of sub life I reckon.

yeah i think thats where they are either side of the entrance
does it not say mines if you zoom in ?
Yes, it does. It says mines.
I mean, is it just that you shouldn't really go into a port that has mines in it? Or that is believed may have mines?
That's cool, if so. I guess I just figured they would always have mines.

well the mines are their to stop you sailing in and sinking the prize ships lol so its just gotta be done
I have yet to hit a mine so cant say what that experiance is like - not even seen one to be honest but that dont mean they not there
Well hope you get out ok and make it back to base
Good hunting
Yeah, thanks. I guess Subnets go to the surface in some areas. I did watch my sub sail over one, but maybe another one futher away is higher, and that's what did it.
Doubt it, though. Damage seemed like a blast.
Anyway, I think I might just say dead is dead, and start over.

If you sail out of the loch dead centre you should avoid them, stay submerged until your about 20-30 clicks away from the loch if you can,/If your damage is that bad your dead anyway depending what year your in? but if you do make it surface make repairs (man your flak guns air cover there is hell)and get away as possible or hit esc which I never do unless am down to 12%or less.

Dead center takes you through a minefield. An image of Loch Ewe from the Campaign_SCR.mis;

I think I'll give Loch Ewe a miss. I've happily sailed through minefields before, but that place looks deadly.
