View Full Version : A couple of questions...
Hello everyone, just started playing sh 3 a couple of days ago and have some questions:
1. I started in the earliest period, now it's half by 1940 and I haven't seen a convoy... when do they appear? and where?
2. How the heck do I intercept ships with the "god's eye" option off??
3. If I don't do a transfer will I end up finishing the war in wilhelmshaven? (sp?)
4. If during a patrol a dock in a friendly port does the patrol end? can I reload torpedoes?
5. is it realistic that I get orders to patrol a grid for 24 hours and instead Igo somewhere else for a couple of days? (and don't get screwed when back at base).
6. Last patrol 2 planes attacked me, I shot one down and the other one flew away, later on same thing happens... is this realistic? I mean they didn't put a dent in my hull...
Ok that's it for now, thanks!

1. They are out there. You just have to be lucky enough to find them. Look on the map that came with the game. It will show you the prime routes.
2. Get real good at spatial calculations. Realistically, use one of the SuperMods, all of which use a modified map that lets you keep Updates on but gives more realistic information.
3. No. You'll be notified when your flotilla changes to a port in France.
4. Yes. You can reload everything. Your next patrol orders will be "Go Home". You can do this by way of another full patrol, ending up in your home base. The only downside is spending 28 days in another port waiting for your next patrol to begin. You can fix this by using SHIII Commander to change the number of days spent in port.
5 Yes. The game was originally going to have an SHII-like canned campaign that had you doing a specific mission, then going on to the next one. When we said we wanted an AOD-style free campaign, it led to your mission orders being "Go to grid MX21", and "Stay there for 24 hours". After that you can go where you want. If you never go there at all you only lose the extra renown you would have otherwise gotten. You get a lot more for sinking enemy ships.
6. Airplanes in the game are very unrealistic. I strongly suggest either the "Airpower Mod" or one of the SuperMods, all of which deal with this in one form or another.
Great answer! Thanks a ton, or even 5 tons ;)
And make sure you keep a radioman on watch all the time to get radio updates. with gw supermod at least, i know that every once in a while a convoy is radio'd in by another boat or BDU.

Them messages are really becomeing a pain in the arse,
IE I intercept a convoy get into position to attack them comes a message "radio message recived"last thing I want to here when am in attack mode now I generally remomove my radioman from his post when am attacking a convoy.
But saying that that was way back in late 42-early 43 now am in 45 April it's a different story no more messages.

It's the 'RadioLog' mod by IrishRed that adds all the messages. It only goes through 12/41 currently. After that all you get is the messages that came with the stock game.
