Not sure if you guys know this but there is a modified Nvidia driver set at 3d Guru called - ForcewareUltra 84.66 "Sedona". And boy does this driver scream fps for me.....
My spec
P4 2.4 Northwood (Clocked at 2.602.54)
Pny 6600 GT OC
1024 meg Dual channel Ram (Generic)
Un-installed my old driver set>>> Rebooted used Drive cleaner pro (Free proggie) to get rid of any lingering registry markers then installed this new driver.
Played SH3 and saw a dramatic increase of 15-20 fps. This with riva tuner settings of FSAA@4S and Anisotropy at Force Level 8.
So for you Nvidia freaks out there give this baby a try if you have a compatible card.

Damn, I could not find it on uboat-realsimulation.com, and the mod list is gone somehow.
I want to get rid of that 'sun-monster'. Do you have a link for Krillers fix??

I have tried the latest forceware drivers but they are totally BETA in a big way and did not install for me, I have been watching the "Ultra" modified drivers carefully the 86 gen drivers are well tested and well liked in the OC community. The "Sedona"beta works great for me and I can reccommend, although the new control panel does not work but thats the only "bug" that I have incurred...
I prefer the old style control panel anyways

Thanks i will try the Sedona drivers. I use to use these forceware a few years back but thought they had stopped, so am happy they still exist. They're better drivers.

Overall I would say that I'm getting at least a 15-20 fps on everygame I play
Doom3
Fear
All cabela's hunting games (especially BGH2005) which was a real frame killer
Deer hunter 2005....10-15 fps increase...
COD....United Offensive...at least a 15 fps increase...
It really is a great modified driver !!! Kudos to the team that put it together, especially FYU who put together the install program that up till this recent version DID NOT WORK, but now everything seems fixed except for the new control panel.

Hmm, these drivers made silent hunter lag really bad, on my main PC running a 6800GT, soon as i go to external view the lag gets worse and worse until the mouse takes forever to move across the screen. Yet on the other PC running an older graphics (GF 5700 ) the forceware drivers performs better. For the 6800gt i even turned off Antialiasing it was defaulted to 8x. Is there something im not doing right, as i notice the new nvidia control panel which is very cool, has alot of features i didn't even know existed! eg under hardware theres one option called "Set coolbits 3" what does this mean?

Coolbits ver 1,2 and 3 which is what you get with the "Sedona driver"is a little app that allows you to "see"preferences that nvidia usually have locked i.e with coolbits installed you can manually overclock your card, or if you are running the "Old" control panel you can scroll down to "Clock freq settings" and run a detect optimal settings for your particular card. As to why you are getting lag, and your card is by far better than mine, I'm misdified?
The only other modified driver set that gets near to the sedona on my rig are the X-treme drivers over at : http://www.tweaksrus.com/
Navigate to there d/l section and look in the 32bit section for there Xtreme-G 84.56 V3 public beta, these drivers pretty well rock as well and I know work well with ALL nvidia cards. Sorry your having problems with the sedona's

*Edit* Just read your post again and you say that your AA was set to 8? are you sure cos as a default setting AA is set to 4X and anistropy set to 8 ? you can fiddle with these two settings but leave the rest alone in the control panel, I find that running AA above 4S does really slow things down, on another note do you have sync turned OFF in the game as this is a real frame killer

Yep your right, I viewed it the wrong way around, Anistropy was set to 8 and AA 4. Ive set them both to "Application" just to test. Also sync which i think you mean Virtical sync? was set to Maximum Frames 3 (default) I just turned that off. Optimizations is set to Trilinear and Antiso sample. i unchecked antiso sample. Level of detail is set to high
Will try it out. Thanks

I can't figure out why i had trouble with the 84.66 drivers, such as heavy lagg in SH3. But i tried the Xtreme-G 84.56 V3 you mentioned and they work perfectly with the same settings

Well I'm glad that at least one of the drivers worked for you and I hope you got an increase in FPS???
Anyway just to show you what the "Sedona's" do on my rig
AA@6S
Anistropy@forceware8
VEry Nice reflections and not a bad FPS although with sync turned off it bounces from anywhere in the low 40's to the high 80's depending on the view
