Thats been going on for a while has it been continuous since around 1970-ish? Or even longer, from the 60s i think. Mostly horrible to listen to, Lordi is making a protest of a sort, well see how metal heads and hard rockers in Europe will wake up to it. Lord looks its inspiration from Kiss, Twisted Sisters and Wasp. The vocalist is friends with Gene Simmons who helped them to get a contract.

Its working :D http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/eurovision/2006/interact/comments_semi.shtml
Another embarassing moment for me as a Finn. Even, if they win, I´m still embarassed.
I would call Lordi´s music a pippeliheavy.

What does "Pippeli" mean?

;)
WELL...????
It´s a 'soft' word for penis. Pippeliheavy is like a softcore in pron, tho, I wouldnt categorize Lordi as heavy metal at all. Too soft to be on the genre. :)
Edit: lol, stupid 'bad word' removal! P3n1s is not a bad word!! :D

"America, Meet the Eurovision Song Contest"
Actually, America is already there. Neal will like this: Germany is represented by a band called "Texas Lightening", and they play no joke and fun tune, but traditional country! According to betting offices, they are secret favourites.

For me Eurovision Song Contest lost it`s charm when everybody were allowed to sing in English. Now it`s just boring with cheesy ballads. Maybe the Finns can change that - hyvää
You watch the Eurovision Song Contest
And we the intelligent part, watch Ishockey.

My stomach is still hurting from last night. I watch this crap almost every year, but this year was the worst and the best at the same time. I went through all kinds of emotions, from ****ting my pants laughing to wanting to vomit.
But I was rewarded for my agony by seeing the faces of all those stuffed wannabe stars get longer and longer and longer. I was so happy to see the place go silent like somebody had died in front of their eyes.
I think the audience has shown this contest the red card by electing the most disgraceful, embarrassing winner in the history of the contest. I also think this is the beginning of the end of this contest (hopefully), which is eating up western europes tax payers money, and does the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do - embarassing Europe instead of advertising it culturally.
However, as much as I appreciate that they were acting as the undertakers of Eurovision Slime Contest, Finland is a loser in this farce. I cannot understand how a country can elect to be culturally represented in this manner. Simply sick.
From the point of view of music lovers, the UK song was the only one that belonged into a pop song contest, and the only one I would listen to if I had it on CD. I also liked the romanian singer, if only the background music/performance would have been a bit less cheesy.
But this event is not about about music, but about patting the minority complex of narrow minded nations, and to show the world how much Europe can suck.
It's therefore recommended for any American to watch this event while it still exists, only to see how little there is about any allegeded cultural superiority of Europe.

Um taxpayers money?
I know that most european countries have at least one national channel but many of them are commercial channels and so use commercial money,
Now if UK wins it then sure...my license fee.
I still think it is rigged even with phone voting...though possible not as when it was just a panel turkey gave to greece and vice versa, that didn't happen this year, at least not from Greece....
The thing is a laugh. At least the Uk finished above France.

It isnt a POP song contest, its just a SONG contest. They won with the biggest margin ever. People have different preferences in music also, so try to respect the people that voted for Lordi. In short, suck it up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE6S7ufPu7k&search=lordi
