Hi, I just got new IXC and would like to know how to use
milk cow. (Im using GW1.0) Could someone help me on this?
Thanks in advance!

(I remember reading that I have to have SH commander to
use milk cow, is this true?)

Nope. You need a mod like GW. It contains a milk cow. The basic definition of a milk cow is a ship or uboat which has no offensive capability as its primary and sole responsibility is to resupply other uboats.

To that end, they have less men, no torpedo tubes (afaik) and no deck gun. BUT they have a lot of torpedos and other supplies.

But the ones that i have visited, are in greek waters (afaik) and thus cannot appear to be aiding the germans. Therefore a normal merchant ship is used to transfer torpedos and supplies to uboats, so that they may continue their hunt.

Now to use a supply ship or milk cow, find one on the map, when its within its time frame of availability, and approach it. As soon as you see the correct ship - for example - in Cadiz, its the Thalia - sail near to it and 'dock' with it, the same as you would a normal base.

Since its not your home port, all you can do is alterations to your crew and start a new, null mission. Null meaning, you dont get a grid to patrol, its just nothing or null.

But of course, you do start afresh.

So when you start the null patrol, go out and start hunting again. You can either return to another milk cow or head home to get some uboat upgrades. Its up to you.

Hope this helps.

you simpy sail close to the milk cow. press esc and then dock.

If you use the sh3commander you can set days in base to 1 beforehand so you are only docked for a day

Unfortunately you cannot give out any medals to your crew and your patrol grid will be "NULL" when you leave which is basicaly a way of saying go home lol

Mate you can change anything you want with your crew. I know, i just did! I am currently sitting right next to thalia.

Harvey, are you saying you are at Thalia and are giving out medals, receiving renown and getting your sunk tonnage added to your total score?
I don't use them because anything I got before hand was not counted (and I did Seawolves in the Med and GW in the North Atlantic so it was not required). So, IMO, they would only be useful to resupply fuel before you begin attacking things you want to get credit for.
Am I wrong?

i had this problem the other day with not being able to hand out medals after docking at thalia and did a post somewhere on here and was told even with GW that is something they couldnt fix http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=52400

what are you running to be able to do that ? if ya dont mind me asking :hmm:

I had saved my game a while before docking and after not being able to do anything other than the game refuelling/arming my boat i quit and reloaded save and went back to my normal base and docked there

Umm well i dont know that i have anything different from anyone else. I use a slightly modded version of GW with my own personal mod. I was able to do anything i liked to the crew whilst i was at thalia. But of course i wasnt able to view my medals do a transfer and upgrade my boat.

Thank you all for the help.

Do you know anyways to set 'days in base' to 1
without using SH commander? Like modifying some
line in some cfg file? I don't like to waste a whole
month docking with a milk cow. I read that
uboats usually spent only 5-6 hours with milk cow
to get resupplied. Any ideas?
