Change frightens me. :-j

Change doesnt frighten me, but i fail to see whats wrong with the forums we have, and ive grown to like them as is. Its crisp, clean, and not an eyesore. (i use the white/silver layout instead of the black one)
If it aint broke, don't fix it. ;)

I think the forums work good. I say stick with what we got, if it isn't broke don't fix it.

I don't see anything wrong with this setup, unless keeping it up is a pain.

Hell yea! Go for the better software! :|\
The current stuff works, but as my boss tells me - treat change as an opportunity :|\

Never change a stable system (as long as you do not have tackling the server-down-times on mind).

Im sure if you do change your not going to lose posters over it, so go for it.
If it works ok why change? I like this lay out as it is. :)
As an italian mobster said in a movie to his "cleaner": Remember Leon, change is not good.
I am happy with this layout, the only problems I've run into are the downtimes, but I know that you are working on it. I think that if you dont find a way to resolve the problems you're having now, it's time for a change. If you resolve the problems, then why change? I can imagine that there is a lot of work with changing forum software.

If there is something substantial to be gained, by the administrators and moderators, then sure. Get the good stuff. As for downtime, I haven't noticed much. There was a few weeks ago with the upgrades, but not anything long-term.
I've actually been thinking about dropping a few more dollars in the hat before the market starts selling off.

amen! (appart from the white/silver bit)
Of all the fora to which I am currently a member, Subsim is the only one which doesn't change every five minutes. This is reassuring in a homey comfortable kind of way. I'm not bothered about such newfangled hyper-forum-topic-layout format thing.
let's hear it for the status quo!!

Neal. He´s bought the new forum software (vBulletin) a few days ago, costs $160. If you guys want to support him buy some stuff from Amazon via his US/European/German Subsim store. http://www.subsim.com/store.htm
Or donate via Paypal:

Is the new forum protected by Starforce?

Well, how about if we were to adopt a new forum software, but it looks pretty much the same? The current phpBB is (I think) causing server problems and the phpBB search is not very good. Plus, they are not able to keep up with security and spambot issues. vBulletin, being run by people who have a stake in keeping their program at the top, can address these things much faster.
But I wanted to hear what you thought before making wholesale changes. :yep:
As for paying for it, lol, that was intended to be a joke option I have that covered, no worries ;)
thanks
Neal

Why change it if it Works?
I votet for this!
BUT if it is causing any Serious issues, change it! But ONLY then!
Otherwise, leave it as it is. I LOVE the style of the forums anyway!
But the Search engine is Crap!

That works for me, espically if the current forum software is causing issues on the back end.

As i already posted, "Serious Issues=New software" is ok for me.
And security issues are SERIOUS issues! :stare:
But please keep the style of the forums the same, it's really Cool!

I like the layout (or am just so used to it that I can't imagine it looking different! :P ), but if vBulletin will work better from a practical standpoint, then I'm all for it.

No real opinion, other than a 40-minute bus/train ride to download stuff once a week is frustrating if the forum happens to be down at that exact moment.
On the other hand, I like this one a lot.
I'll be happy with whatever shakes out in the wash.

I frequent a couple other forums that use vBulletin. I like the setup they have. What kind of worries me, though, is will the current topics be able to be transferred to the new software? There are all sorts of useful topics I have bookmarked. Will they go the way of the dodo?
Also, will the forum keep the black theme? I like that over the white one, but that is really a moot point I guess.

I've been working to get the Silver theme finalized, will add a black theme next. All threads should be imported, we won't lose anything.

Very Well, you seem to make progress very fast!
And thanks that we can continue to have a Black theme if we want!

Yeah, plus the new stuff has an option for people using slow dial-up, they can switch off excess graphics and it loads really quick.

Yes, that one´s great! There are three options:
Show Signatures
Show Avatars
Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)
I say.. "If it aint broke... Drebbel can fix that!"
But the real issue Neal.. is what's gunna make your life easier!
We worship the people you walk on!! :D

This sounds really promising. Fingers crossed it all works out smoothly not to mention Kapitan wouldn't want to loose his massive post count.
