Hello everybody,

I've been playing SH3 for about 3 months, and this week I finally downloaded GW. Wow, how impressively the game changed!

I started a new career in 1939 Wilhelmshaven, and made my first patrol in IIA. I was able sink one British medium cargo, but it took four torpedos, so I decided to head back to port.

I was just about 25 km from Wilheshaven using time compression, when something broke up, I had heavy flooding and my u-boot began to sink.

Well, I was able to press Esc and choose 'Dock at: Wilhelshaven', but I considered it cheating and did not do it.

What happened? Did I collide with a friendly ship? Or are there friendly mine fields out there?

Welcome aboard!

About the medium cargo: You know that it takes more time for ship to sink in GW and NYGM mods? They wont sink in minutes like in stock game. :)

Second: It was most propably a friendly mine you hit. Watch out!

Thanks.

Well, I still haven't seen one single mine in SH3. How can you prevent running into them? :-?

Check the supplied maps with mine positions :). Upper left corner of the NAV map, just drag it down.

There are also friendly subnets that will kill you. You might want to wait for the escort ship and follow him in. Or you can select the alternate version that excludes the mines and nets.

Just remember: if you're using GW you're also using the very latest Harbour Traffic Mod. There are a lot of ships coming and going. Relax, take your time and enjoy the view.

One of the many good things about GW. It has mines which arent marked on the map - as they shouldnt be - but you are also provided with an ingame map detailing their positions.

Nothing“s better than returning from a two month patrol and blowing yourself up to a lone mine in English channel.

Also the possibilty that you may have run aground on Heligoland? Though it's more like 75 km I suppose from Wilhelmshaven. It's an island (or archipelago more accurately?), that isn't visible on the map unless you zoom in a bit.

Wow! This is great! :D

There must be a bunch of things I haven't yet found in GW!

No, it was most probably a mine, since I was very close to Wilhelmshaven.

I haven't ran aground on Heligoland, but I did that once on a tiny island west of Scotland. Funny... Why didn't my navigation officer warn me? :damn:
