That remains to be seen...
Lately I am getting a bit nervous about the Dutch getting into the final round. If we don't win from Serbia-Montenegro we will have a very hard time against Ivory Coast and Argentina...
:-?
But thanks for your quick and clear prediction on this thread. We need optimists like you!

I preferr this to be a decent conversation between moderators; the two Dutch moderators I mean, the two Yanks probably have no clue about real football anyway...
Let's keep it locked, otherwise Skybird might say something positive about "die Mannschaft" (a word we both don't like)!

Get away from this thread, Texan, unless you can explain what "off side" means!

Off side ? Isn't that the same as off course ?
:D
Just read in the newspaper that the National Team will not take one of Hollands top scorer with them.
That is how good we are, we do not even need a top scorer to win

Group A the potential for the biggest disgrace of the tournament (GER).
Group B smallest chances for surprises (ENG, SWE)
Group C also smallest chances for surprises (HOL, ARG)
Group D team all with hot temperaments (MEX, IRA, POR, ANG)
Group E hottest group on earth (ITA, USA, CSR)
Group F prolongued training (BRA)
Group G plays three against one (FRA)
Group H replays the reconquista (ESP, SAU) :smug:

Brazil will probably go trough it's group (F) with no problems, things will get hotter closer to the end in my opinion.
Netherlands will win anyway. No need to argue about that

I don't see why you guys insist on calling this sort "football" when it's plainly a soccer ball being kicked around….
i think it's really only called Football because apart from the goal keeper-
you have to use the feet to move the ball around--for the most part any way-- you can use your head or chest in fact any other part of your anatomy other than your hands and arms--
nothing too fancy--i dare say Football seemed the obvious choice for a name !!!:hmm:
gawd knows what it was callled back in the middle ages when it was hundreds of people kicking a sheeps bladded about:lol:

Think of it: if looking at the number of believers worldwide, soccer is the most important and dominant world religion of all time, second to absolutely no one...Saw a docu yesterday about Pelé. Beauty in motion. Fascination pure. Unbelievable. Can there ever be a second soccer artist like him? Maradona was a fully loaded truck, compared to him (and an looser by character anyway)

Oh no, another topic arguing about who´s s better: Maradona or Pele.

:yep: But the only thing better than watching Pele play was watching Pele and Garrincha play together from all the accounts I've read and the footage that I have seen. Has there ever been a better combination? I doubt it but I'm sure the more qualified football (soccer) nuts could advise on that. If memory serves me right, Brazil never lost a match when both Pele and Garrincha played together.
well merry England did their no world famous intepretation of the "uncertainty principle" in their friendly with hungary last night--(didn't look like a friendly tho)
it goes like this--
can we be bothered?
well just for a little while --
oh dear were not scoring any goals--
oh well---
there's allways the second half--
oh heck we've scored how did that happen--
oh heck they've scored -who let them on the pitch--
blimey we've scored again --who'd have thought that was going to happen--
hey were england give us the cup
we can make any game seem like hard work--

:rotfl: I fell over laughing at those plan pictures. England is still going to win though.
BECAUSE WE RULE.
Well, we used to.
Till they claimed independence.
Look who's laughing now though, eh?
I dont even *like* football.

Testmatch Germany vs Columbia this evening. Hell, that was fun! 3:0, could have easily been logged as a 6:0 or 7:0, with just a bit more luck. And after the misery German soccer faced after the wonderful Confed Cup, all of a sudden the team seems to have come together again, and every player suddenly falls into his most ideal position. Schweini, Balli, and Poldi are a true power when being put together. Defense probably still weak, but it had nothing to do in that match. But the midfield and the left side is really good. There is hope they could make it beyond the first round!
i just hate watching England play--every world cup is the same---
you start of thinking--ok this time i'm not getting sucked into belive-ing we can do it--
then it looks like we are doing allright--so slowly you start to get excited by the whole thing--then they have a bad game--against several badgers on a field trip ---then they have a brilliant game against the uber grubers on heat--then they get knocked out on penaltys by any randomly chosen team available at the time because a goal in the second half (usually scored by Sol Campbell for some inexplicable reason the last two Cups)
was disallowed due to freak weather conditions in the Alps--
then you need therapy for six months to get over the trauma--
i'm sick and tired of it--but i'll be exactly the same this time round so what's the point--i'm looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time--think i'll move to argentina or something---

@ Abraham,
I apologise on behalf of my team (Socceroos) for roughing you guys up a bit yesterday in the 1-1 "friendly". That was just a reminder that we are not just here to make up the numbers in this tournament. :-j
Seriously though you guys had your chances and if it wasn't for our goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer then we probably would have lost 2 or 3-1.

I almost expected some gracious posting like this from you.:D
Well, the Socceroos played hard but not unfair overall. They compensated their lack of technical finesse with manly and sometimes too rough football. Tactically they played very well after being under pressure for the first half hour or so. You could see the influence of their (Dutch) coach Guus Hiddink. After their early goal Holland should have gotten a penalty for a clear handsball of an Auusie in their own penalty area. The Dutch were better overall and it was just that our coach Van Basten advised the players to avoid personal duels. Still we got some nice chances near the end, when nobody was really sharp anymore, which was hopefull. It was considered a real good test for Oranje after beating Kameroon (1-0) and Mexico (2-1) during earlier test matches last week.
Overall these test matches are not seen as serious games in Holland but really as try outs.
Holland is ready for the tournament. In my eyes not the favorite, but a dangerous outsider for all other teams.
I have my doubts about Brazil. I watched their match against New Zealand. They played lousy and slow and only won çause of the full cooperation of the Kiwi's. Brazil is technically the best but the team just doesn't look sharp. And their defense is all but solid. They seem to think that they just have to be on the field for 90 minutes a match in order to take the Cup home. They could be in for a nasty surprise...

Well, Johan Cruyff used to warn the Dutch team before we lost the semi-finals in the EC 2000 with one of his famous quotes: "The Italians can't win from you, but you can lose from them" which was exactly what happened by the way...

Well, well. After seeing Germany playing today, I just have to wait to see England and Argentina, and then I'll be 100% sure that Brazil is gonna win it's 6th world cup: we have the best offense (Ronaldo+Ronaldinho+Kaka+Adriano), a very good mid-field, and a good defense:smug:.
I will tell you who's the winner of worldcup-06

And I will now tell you who won the WorldCup-06

Wow, 100% agreed. I know the brazilian soccer quite well, and I can say Garrincha and Pelé together are simply incredible.
