Playing a homemade mission to test various systems. After tweaking the SIM. cfg file so noise level set at 0.3, escorts were able to maintain contact even while silent running....finally a challenge.

Anyway, setup was April 43, a Brit Hunter-Killer group consisting of a V&W, Hunt III, Black Swan and a Flower set against a IXC/40.

Once watch spotted them at ~9km, I dived, unless I initiated silent running, they would detect me.

After I let them detect me, they made a large number of attack runs against me, took boat down to 210m, still they were able to do damage, so I went down to 250m where the pressure hull started to give way, :o then went up to 240m.

I stopped all motors and waited to see what happened, They still made runs on me, but did not drop any DCs. :hmm:

I wanted to see what was up with this, so I went to Periscope depth and figuring they ran out of ash cans, let them detect me by running motors full. I took a look around, and there were the Hunt and the Flower, just sitting there.....They then made attack runs and dropping DCs..... :hmm:   WOW! pretty cool AI behavior!

I tried to duplicate this unsuccessfully...anybody else notice this.

I have seen VW destoyers stop engines and just sit there for a long time.. I think they was listening for me to make any little noise so they could pin point my position ... little did they relize I was only about 100 meters from them 150 meters below dead in the water waiting ....... thank you for the anti-sonar coating that cost me 1500 renown :D

Using external views I've watched them sit and listen for several minutes, even when alone.

I've also seen them tag-team me. Using the mod that only lets the sonar point down sixty degrees, they have to make a blind run, just like in real life. Sometimes one will stop and wait, and when you go to flank speed when one is about to drop, the other one will speed up and head right for you.

Playing with external view off and knowing they do that sometimes is downright spooky.

I'm still playing too early in the war to encounter H/K groups, so I don't know if they follow the real tactic of having the one who finds you first (Hunter) slow down to your speed and guide the others (Killers) in for the...well, kill.
