Taking a survey, thanks
PS: if you do buy regularly, please mention the magazines you buy, (PC Gamer, Computing Game World, Computer Games magazine, etc)

I never buy gaming magazines. I'm not into gaming that much to spend money on some subscription. Plus, if I am interested in a game I usually just look it up on the Internet.
Pc Gamer, usually. But only if there's a review of something I'm interested in... kindof 'see before you buy'. ;)

Never.
Like jumpy, PC Gamer if I see something I want to read about.
I used to but i hate paying for what amounts to a collection of advertizements.

I used to...before when the internet wasn't so good. Now you get everything online like in a mag, plus more. The more would be "real life opinions". How many times have I bought a game recommended by magazines only to find it doesn't live up to expectations? Plenty. Let's face it...magazine companies have vested interest through selling advertising space the games companies, forum users don't. Never read a gaming review which says "this game sux!" even if it does.

Always. every month without fail i buy two australian magazines as New Zealand is to poor to start its own :88)
PCPOWERPLAY good one this comes with 2 dvds of goodies every month and is only $12.95
PC Addict comes with 1 dvd and 1 cd for $8.95
With PC Powerplay you can request a Mod to be added to there mods section on the dvd - i have requested that they add Greywolves mod. As my DL speed is to slow. So far no luck.

Never. There are enough good gaming sites on the Internet.
Sometimes, if I have enough disposable income, but not as much now that I've got broadband. When I do, it's usually either PCGamer or Official PS2 magazine.

Care to name some? I have never found any...usually just go to the official or fan websites/forums to find info on games.

I think I bought one about 10 years ago. :P To me, they aren't worth it because
- they're mostly just gloss (i.e., ads).
- the articles/reviews are basically more hype to back up the ads.
- I can't understand the hype because it's usually written in Ancient Geek. Not into overclocking or garishly decorated cases.
- I couldn't afford the stuff in the ads even if I wanted it.
- I don't consider myself a "gamer." I just like to play games (and I've reached the point where I pretty much know what I like and what I'm not interested in).
Dunno - guess all my rowdy friends have settled down. :P
I used to, not much anymore though. It's mostly because I've gotten away from "games" as such - I play only a very limited selection, and mostly of sims. In the last year, I only seriously played two games - Rome: TW and SHIII, with a little bit of IL-2 and Navy Field on the side.
I always liked the mags though. They make great washroom reading :88)

I bought a copy of PC Gamer a couple of years ago (Feb 03) but that’s it. I got the Internet, why do I need to waste money on a magazine?

Never. I used to buy several different magazines years ago but now I just find review on the internet. Gaming magazines seem less interested these days in objectively reviewing the (mostly) junk that is unleashed on the public. Instead their niche seems to be in promoting it to sell ad space. :nope: The 'net is less tainted and the taint that is there is easier to filter out.

I'd be lucky to by 1 game mag a year now although I do buy PC hardware magazines now and then.
I used to subscribe to PC Powerplay when I was back in Australia. Great mag. I'm biased though because when I renewed my subscription to it one year I won the comp that they have and my prize was a nice big Philips 109P Brilliance 19" flat screen monitor. At the time that was AUD $1000 retail so I was pretty chuffed with that and it's still going strong almost 5 years later. I'n any case a great mag.

Hell am i the only one that still buys these mags  Is it becoming a thing of the past. :hmm: I never miss an issue haven't for yrs now. Then again im pretty addicted to gaming mags that if subsim brought out one i would probably buy it :-j Demos are also getting larger now, for instance LOTR Battle for middle earth 2 demo was over 1gig in size, that would take me like a week on a 12kb dl speed. Just wait for the magazine to come out instead. Also cool ultitlies, prizes, competitions (won 2 games through competition) and tech info, also every month a subscribe user is in the chance to win a gaming rig and theres 2 dvds of stuff that come with each issue. Not bad for $12 bucks.

I used to buy loads of them back in the day when "gaming" was new. Then came the BBS, and later the internet finally killed it.
Every now and then I read one or the other, but only to make sure they continue to be unnecessary.

google for a game, see some screenshots, some reviews, etc. nothing fancy. Don't need a magazine for that. ;)

Subscription of GameStar (German Game Mag). Two DVDs on each for 5€ a month with at least one full game (sometimes even interesting stuff like Morrowind) mostly two of them.
Unfortunatly those game websites like GameSpy just wont hack it for me, total overload of Ads and I actually prefer good ole fashioned print on paper on some things - lot easier to carry around with you for reading while being bored to death in college classes.

Gaming mags are for the console crowd now...the simpletons who don't own computers, that is.
Does anyone here hate consoles like I do? :damn:

I liked the original Nintendo and Atari 2600 as a kid :D
These days I don't care for them and attribute the generally boring and formulaic (example: RTS clones) games that dominate the shelves to the "need" to port everything to a console. :nope:

I don't buy any...I mainly go from word of message from various online forums;
What could a Mag tell me, that others have actually played?
It's been my (40yrs) experience that any review in a magazine- regardless of what the topic is- is that the reviewer is always looking for the Plus side of ANY product, and rarley gives the down side.
That said, most Mags are just Advertisement vehicles anyway.

I usually fall victim to the ones that show a hot bodied girl straddeling a computer case in a bikini :hmm: , but it's funny cause I never really need the rest of the magazine. :P

You need to read PCPowerplay they tell it like it is, if the games bad the will rubbish it and warn you not to buy it, they even warn the reader if the game contains starforce.
The only magazine I buy from time to time is (AFTER THE BATTLE) apart from that one, no I don’t buy any from the shops just a waste of money or so full of adverts hardly anything worth reading in them.
If anyone is interested in AFTER THE BATTLE click on the link.

I liked the original Nintendo and Atari 2600 as a kid :D
I still have my NES from when I was a kid. Occasionally, I fire it up for a game of Duck Hunt.
Rarely. Usually the Finnish mag, Pelit.
I hate gaming sites. They're usually stuffed so full of ads, animations and other crap it takes hours to even locate a search-bar not to mention how slowly they load..

"Edge" magazine. Gaming magazine for grown ups, covers PC, Consoles, Handhelds, Coin-Op. Intelligently written, high production values, very few adverts (and consequently higher cover price) but worth the money.

So I do, as anything is better than women's stuff, but rarely I discover something really in my taste; maybe I'm out of their target of readers.
Subsim.com is my favourite source, now.

most UK gaming magazines give me a nervous twitch..lol
i bought them for a while (PC GAMER etc etc) then realised that no mater what the issue was the content was exactly the same..same jokes same reviews everything..the only reliable thing about them was that if they thought a game was use-less then it was probably worth buying..and if they thought a game was absolutley brilliant -then i should avoid that game like the plague..
bit wierd.. :hmm:
only magazine i buy on occasion is PC PLUS or PC FORMAT which do have a gameing section -as they seem to be more conservative in their views on what makes a good game..they have good cover discs and are full of tutorials on just about every aspect of computing etc ...they usually have a sexy cover too--(PC FORMAT) LOL-- bit of a contradiction that last one ..
I used to buy a lot of gaming magazines before but I stoped.
Nowdays I buy at most 3 magazines a year.
Polish magazine called "CD-ACTION" and PC Gamer.

PC Plus is a good tech mag with nice full versions, hardly any games mentioned, but good all the same, haven't brought PC Plus since NZ upped the price to $29 for a magazine!! (yes i am tight with my money)
