I am running GW1.1+NYGM UC with a 16km (night and day) mod on my SH3 and I had a rather unpleasant incident with my watch crew the other day. Patrolling in the BF sector in absolutely clear and still weather in the middle of the day (summer 1941) with TC on 256 i get the message "warship spotted" with the appropriate prompts.
I start thinking "warship on the horizon" but it turns out that this destroyer is only 3km away and already firing at me...
Since TC automatically drops to 1 when the watch crew spots a ship I can only conclude that according to the game calculations, the watch crew could only spot a destroyer at 3km away in perfectly clear conditions which sounds a bit ridiculous.
Anyone else had this problem with inept watch crew and is there a mod to make this more realistic?
(My crew was not fatuiged nor was morale low)
Thanks :D

Wow mine pick them up at 13k most of the time which is annoying as i set it always dive to periscope depth. Most of the time its going in the same direction as you only faster or crossing your bows grrrr. Am running GW by the way.

I notice a distinct reduction in AI spotting ability when looking into the sun. Was the sun low and in the direction of the DD?
Also, light fog reduces visibility to 4km, I know you said it was perfectly clear, but sometimes it can be sunny, no clouds and calm, but still light fog. Just a guess.

Not sure if there was fog, didn't look like it though.
I remember reading somewhere that editing a certain game file with a "visibility" coefficient can help the issue with AI spotters. Don't remember the name of the file though (nor the coefficient in question for that matter)...
I got DC'd for about an hour but got away with no damages, such a shame though as I might have been able to sink the darn thing!

Happened to just yesterday. I got beaten up pretty bad, my poor Boot was half-done. Man i was angry at my WO. I don't get that, once he could spot ships up to 14 km and now!...stupid bugger :nope:

Data/cfg/sim. It was suggested to change sensitivity under the visual header to 0.02.

That's it! Haven't played the game in a few days but I managed to get away from the destroyer and continued patrolling the grid. About an hour later (game clock) I'm cruising on 16x (!!!) and get the message "we're under attack" and sure enough, it's the same destroyer 800m away from us and not one peep from my watch officer! The bridge was fully manned but nothing!!!
I've had enough of this... new career
