Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but I came across a very good submarine film the other week, very much in the tradition of "das boot".

Not quite as good but still very much worth a veiw. It's called "in enemy hands".

IMHO

So far the best submariene movie I've seen is Crimson Tide.

This film is an embarrassment. The script is cliché ridden and most of the acting from the American side is horrible. Props and sets are phony to the point where objects are inserted "to create a WWII feeling" with everything obviously modern in the background. There are a couple shots of the American Captain's Bunk with multiple pictures of different WWII pinup girls posted all over his cabin... somewhat unprofessional for a Navy Officer, looked more like a WWII teenage boy's room.

The sets were way to large, especially in the torpedo rooms..... and I never realized the expression used by William Macy "stop talking' trash" was part of the WWII lexicon. And the phony Veronica Lake Hair across the face look for Holly was just foolish. It remind me of the cartoon character female lead from Roger Rabbit. The storyline had potential and I am sure that's what sucked Macy into doing this thing. In the end I am sure it was just an easy payday waiting for better films like The Cooler... do not waste money.

Dude this movie got horrible reviews

I have seen it, it wasn't that bad. Okay, we have WWII subs engaging each other like modern subs, firing torpedoes while both are underwater (like in "U-571"), and the plot was horrible. But could you identify type VIIC from propeller sounds? :hmm: . But germans are not automatically the bad guys, so I give it credit for that.

Let me remind you people that itll take a very long time and a brilliant director to create another masterpiece such a s Das Boot. And IMHO, Hollywood will never be able to accoplish this.

Cheers!

I'll agree with that. The flag waving always seems to get in the way... :yep:

Although I am somewhat surprised that Hollywood hasn't done something based (loosely of course) around U-505 (or if they have, I'm not aware of it). Perfect flag waver there.
