Twice this happened to me now and I don't know why.
First time in early 41 in one of the AM grids encountered a convoy escorted by just 2 Black swan Frigates initial report said convoy was doing 7 KNTS but when I intercepted them they were stationary all 14 ships or so however a black swan come to have a nosey in my direction fired of a fish in his direction the torp just went underneath him and carried on fired anouther on at him this time set to impact that too went underneath him and carried on.On a closer look at the frigates there waterline as way out of the water you could even see there props going round.
Now it happened a second time same weather condition no cloauds no wind, Ideal weather to take a convoy out again this convoy around 14 ships mainly C2s and C3s and 4 Tankers escorted by two black swans fire at one and tracked my torp, and the same thing happened it went right underneath him without exploding and carried on until it hit a C3 and sunk her so it wasn't a dud but she was high out of the water as the previous one I encountered in early 41 so I wasn't going to let this convoy go as she sailed toward the shinking ship I surfaced and armed the deck gun myself had her range from my pd and sank her with about 20 rounds of HE shells the second black swan suffered the same fate but with AP shells at around 4500M.
Oh on this occassion the grid was CF61 22/1/42
I question I like to know are the black swans suppose to ride with there waterline above the water so you can see there rudder and props rotateing in calm sea's they are the only ones I,ve seen all other warships behave normally waterline covered.
