My husband got rid of ours years ago. They drove him nuts about a missed minor payment, even though my husband contacted them, explained he was overseas at the time, and asked them to consider his perfect record for the prior decade or so.

We have used Visa and MasterCard/EuroCard ever since without looking back.

I don't know about the present but several years ago, Amex saw a lot of businesses stopping to accept the card because Amex charged a higher rate, assuming their prestige made it worthwhile.

I can only recall one place, a restaurant in NY, that exclusively only accepted Amex cards and none other.

Cherish your Nan Kap ! Once they go you lose a lot of valuable family oral history. I would trade everything I have
to bring mine back - both great people, strong family leaders.

Nurture one credit card for major purchases and build a good credit rating with it. 'Hang-out' another for exposure
to cr*p on the internet - use it only for that after ringing in to reset your credit limit for that card at what you
can affotd to lose at poker. ;)

I plan to have one credit card and one only, i chose american express because my two visa debit cards are not accepted in most countrys i go to over sea's, which is a pain in the ar$e.

AMEX will boost my credit rating and also enable me to buy some things quicker and also because i run a very small buisness i can now use that to trade.

Visa is accepted pretty much everywhere I've been, Cap. Credit cards, anyway... Debit and ATM are a pain in the a... Beside, once you're abroad with a ship, don't use your credit card.

It's called a cash advance, and it's a lot simpler :-D

Plastic cards no thanks far too easy to clone your details, one swipe by the bad guys and you’re in the red before you know it. Hard cash is back in fashion, I got turned down some 10 years ago; reason I had less than £35,000 so if you get the card Kap I shall eat my Tuna steak.

They cancelled me. They kept offering me these incentives for less than 1% interest, so I took their money and used it to make more money, and still have yet to pay them off (I still pay the minimum on this one)! I'm not sure I ever will because I can earn more money in bank account interest than in paying the credit card debt. So I pay myself typically, but it mostely goes to stocks instead of my bank account

ANyway, the way they intended it to work is, they intice you to get debt going on the card with these checks you can cash at almost no interest, and then any purchases you do go on the card itself at 12% interest, but when paying the card, you have to pay against the less than 1% stuff and not the higher 12%, resulting in them gouging you for the high interest while you struggle to pay off the low interest. So the trick is to beat them at their own game and just plain not use the card at all, yet use as much almost no interest money that you can! THen you get what is in effect, FREE MONEY!

Personally, I hate to have the debt, but if you think about it logically, it would be completely stupid for me to pay off this debt since it is not in my best interest. THe simple fact that I am doing this is why AMEX cancelled my card (due to inactivity) - it is costing them money to have me around. Sooner or later though, even the minimum payments will kill it off, but I'll milk it to the very last.

We have the same plan, i have an off shore account with a swiss bank intrest rates are very high over there and the intrest rates on repayments are low on the card, i plan to borrow say £15,000 off shore it into my swiss account then repay over a period of time hence not loosing the card nor occuring any cost, and making money in the same time.

Wait till they send you those checks in the mail and make sure they are like almost 0 interest and you can play the same game.

In the meantime, go get yourself a VISA for every day use. VISA is better since it is a pain to find places that take AMEX sometimes.

No just mucking around with CC cards is asking for trouble. I know acouple of people who thought they were clever with money shifting it around from this card to that and playing one off against the other and they ended up **** creek with no paddle.

Thing is what is your income. You've applied for the navy merchant and royal but are you earning decent money?

Credit is just way to easy to get.

If you can get away with it great but just be careful.

Credit doesn't spell death. Especially if you only have one or two cards with limits under 1grand, it's hard to screw up so badly you can't manage.
