You can buy a mig kit for $22,000 however you need a licence to fly it in europe and also you cant fly it supersonic.

You would have to spend a lot of money tring to get an aviation authority to certify it,let alone an engineering company to maintain it or somebody to teach you how to fly it!The Raf shackletons that were preserved went to the USA where one occasionally flies. If you ever get down to South Africa Thunder City has some Lightnings plus a Buc.This is why you will never see a Vulcan or concorde fly again!

The CAA says they are too complicated to certify for flight. its sad realy.

Here in Quincy, IL we have someone who buys Warsaw Pact planes and rebuilds them to fly himself.

ooooh, nice MiG....

Now...where are they selling the 29s and the F-18s?

Actually...since I'd be doing this through the fiance's ebay account I'd better look out an F-14 too... :D

EDIT: That being said, I just found a Hawker Hunter (not airworthy :( ) on ebay for £3,000 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hawker-Hunter-F6-Interceptor-Historic-Jet-Fighter_W0QQitemZ4635918587QQcategoryZ32635QQrdZ1Q QcmdZViewItem)

Belive it or not, there is a company, Air Capital Warbirds in Kansas, that is rebuilding an F-18 and an F-16 from parts. They might be sold already... They sell other high performance warbirds too, MiGs, A-4s and even F-8s  If I ever win the lottery, that jerk going supersonic over your house in a Crusader will be me

There's also a place in Rockford, Illinois that sells more mainstram warbirds but still way cool stuff!

If I get the chance I’ll be dog fighting you with my A-4 Skyhawk. I wouldn't mind ziging through downtown office blocks with that!

:ping: The RPD could even call me in to do close air support for the drug raids in the more seeder sections of the city. A few 500lb snakeeyes are just what a few sections of the city could use. :ping:

[Kent Brockman]This just in, dope dealing down 75%. Malicious aerial strafing up 600%.[/Kent Brockman]

Rochester is the murder capital of NY? Weird, I've been through there a few times and it didn't seem like it. Learn something new everyday.

Yep the Murder rate is 3.49 times the National Average in Rochester. Buffalo is only 2.86 times the National Average, Syracuse 1.53 times the National Average, and Utica 1.52 times the National Average.

Yeah - some guy bought a MiG-21 and attempted to hit Mach 2 off the Washington coast about 10 years ago. Never heard from him again. Though it was most likely a structural failure or pilot error that killed him, I think a third possibility exists in that he ran out of gas and hit the drink!

Mig 21 can easily go mach 2 the chez versions and russian versions routinely hit mach 2.2.

Mig 25 was flying over syria and hit mach 3.

I was flying over Iraq in a MiG-29 and hit...a building

Not 100% they could be used again but not at that power so yeah i suppose they were, the cruise speed was mach 2.8 at 75,000 feet thats what they offer when they take rich tourists for rides in them $35,000USD for one hour flight.

Mach 2 for MiG-21 is the outer edge of the envelope. After that, heat generation (not airflow) can rip the wings off. A way to counteract this is to go higher for less airflow, but then you run into a powerplant power generation problem. The upgraded engine viarants probably do hit Mach 2.1 to 2.2 but are basically out of gas at the exact moment they do hit it.

MiG-25 can hit Mach 3 for a short bit, but it destroys the engines. After landing, a MiG-25 that has exceeded Mach 2.8 has its engines thrown completely away and replaced. This is a no no for Russian pilots apparently due to the costs.
