Been after something like this for a while now... a strategy game with politics military and economic aspects - Global Power seemed to fit the bill and Super Power 2 (successor to GP) would have been worth a look-in were it not for SF :(
I'm not so much looking for a command & conquer type thing where you micromanage the battles, but something more in line with Risk etc preferably with modern day technology.
Civilisation IV looks good but I was after something where all the 'action' is modern day. Oh yer, also I'd like to be able to build a decent navy and nuclear capability with such a game :D
Any suggestions?

SP2 has starforce? Arse!! :nope:

Well, Civ III with The Cold War Deluxe mod is a nice one to play. The scenario ranges from 1950 to 1989 and you can play as Russia, the UK, USA, Italy, WG, China and quite a few others. Turn times are a little slow but the unit animations are well done.
No starfarce, either :D

I'm currently playing Galactic Civilizations 2. Nice game, but a bit too modern for your purposes I guess. It does have the different aspects you want.

Hearts of Iron 2 - Doomsday.

From 1936 to 1953, or whatever, I've never played that long. :88)

Focused much more on military than economy and internal politics though, also not modern enough, but there are nukes and navies alright.

Hmm, been browsing that Doomsday thing. 12 quid from play.com...
I seem to be coming over all Dr Strangelove!
Apparently theres a patch update and also a mod to let the game continue instead of finnishing in 1954...
Might have to give it a go in the meantime
