Hey guys wondering what your longest or best warship kill was. I encounterd a clemson destroyer off the coast of Ireland Needless to say he spoted me, i dove went silent got DC'd for a bit then he went on his way. I surfaced once i nolonger heard him. Surface and i get a ship spoted warning. Well there he is exactly 180 degrees behind me and his heading was almost the exact opposite of mine. So i figure eh why not i ususally dont use all my aft fish. So i set one to magnetic about .5 under the keel and send it. well about 7 mins later i get a torpedo impact. I turn around to see if i need to finish him off and before i can make it there i get a enemy unit destroyed :) It was awesome. So come on lets hear how you stuck it to a warship

I had a great experience - I had just survived the gibraltar run, with my old beloved, U-71, and we were pretty beat up on that run. Anyway, we just wanted to get to port. We encountered a small convoy - 1 DD (V&W, i think) escorting a small merchant. For revenge, I decided to torpedo the DD. I fired a T2 that dud/missed. I fired a T1 fast that missed, and he go suspicious and turned around to face me. He sailed past me on my port side, and i gave him the T1 fast from my aft tube. It caught him, amidships and when he settle from the explosion there was a large fire between his smokestacks. Rather than slowing down, as they usually do, he accelerated like crazy, and started firing star shells into the sky! He fired like 20 (maybe all he had), fairly close together. Then he made a large circle, still at flank, and then slowed down. I was making evasion at that point (wasn't sure what the starshell signal would attract), and I was only around long enough to see him get back on course in front of the merchant and continue (at the merchant's speed ~6kts). I don't know if he sunk - if so I never got credit for it.

So, I guess that doesn't count as a DD kill, but it was one of my most dramatic encounters with them.

Could be a premature detonation short before the eel hit him. I had this once. Enough damage to cause fire on deck, but not enough to sink the tommy.

Yea maybs - premature det is the worst. I don't use mags at all anymore.

on a good day i decided to get through the channel of Gibraltar.
but as i came furhter, the amount of destroyers on patrol increased.
so i only could get passed submerged. but i dind't have enough power left in my batteries. so i decided to get back. for a few hours, it was quiet.

then my radioman heared signals from many ships. i swapped to my map and saw some strange things. 5 singals formed a straigh line. so i got to periscope depth and there i saw 3 battleships!!
a Revenge a the top and just behind it, a Nelson Battleship. and then, just further away another Revenge Battleship. so i came in position and fired 4 torpedo's, 2 at the first Revenge and 2 at the Nelson. and then i got spotted. to bad they went to evasive manouvres. but i already launched my torps so i hoped for the best. and it was very good!! 1 torpedo for the revenge missed, but the other hit the revenge in the machineroom. he slowed down. my other 2 torps hit the nelson in his amunitioncompartment. he was blown away by his own amunition. he was 36.000 TONS!!!!
the revenge managed to speed up again and i lost the two remaining battleships. but there were around 15 other ships now searching for me, i had been DC'ed many times. i have some good pictures of it. but i managed to survive it all and went home wit everything destroyed on the deck. my deckgun, flakgun and my bridge, all destroyed. i had also one electric engine destroyed. but as those torps were my last, i went home!

A dream encounter - 3 BBs. On the run through gibraltar that I was describing, I ran into an Illustrious, coming back west with a storm of DDs and a few cruisers. I too took a shot but was not as lucky as you. I sunk nothing and had my deck, tower, and periscope riddled by machine gun bullets.

Gibraltar is a great, dangerous, place to get some high action.

I got one once from over 4000 meters. It was an accidental stern shot, Damn enter key! I knew it wasn't going to happen, but it did!

Got 3 DD's that day before his buddies caught and sank me in shallow water. :damn:

CW :ahoy:

I had a nice one a few patrols back.

My watch spotted a destroyer at about 7ks away in stormy weather, due to cross my course at at almost exactly 90degrees.

I rushed ahead, went to periscope depth and got as close as I could, which was till a long way away for a dd kill. I stopped about 3.5 km away to make my speed calcs which I double and triple checked.
I then launched an electric torpedo, to make sure there was no noticable wake.
The torp hit dead centre and immediately snapped the poor destroyer in half in a huge explosion.

on my very first patrol of my career in my IIA I only encountered DD's. One moment I dropped my guard accidentaly and got detected :(. We tried some evasive actions but I could't avoid being hit bij their DC's a few times.. Had to repair the damage before I was able to surface again.. Those were some scary moments for me and my inexperienced crew..
When I finally came to PD heard a DD coming right at me from 180 degrees :o and I could only pray that he had not located me.
I decided to dive some more and axiously awaited for the DC's to be dropped... but he didn't.. He just kept on going... I ordered my men to quickly bring our IIA to PD and I fired two torps right after the DD.. They both exploded a meter below his keel and sunk the DD..
This was enough for me and my crew and we set our course back to Kiel sinking one additional small merchant on our way home..
