I wish to make a purchase from the amazon.com site but it does not give me the option of [paying by switch.i do not want to use visa or mastercard.
amazon .co.uk will alow swich payments but they do not have the item i want.
my question is if i use a visa or similar credit card on amazon .com is it relatively safe?i mean compared to other internet ppl.
are they a well reputable company?

I have never had any problems with Amazon be it here in the UK or the USA. I have made dozens of transatcions with Amazon and not once have I had a single problem from the billing side. I guess you could say that I am a happy customer. :D
It was fine in Canada. Got a book off them recently for 1/3 the price of what it went for in 'normal' retail, and they delivered it rather timely. No complaints from me :)
Only good things to say. Ordered quite many second hand books from US and UK, always delivered and no problems.

Only good experiences (amazon.de), friendly, good service. Year for year voted to be amongst the safest sites in Germany, concerning banking transactions.
On the other hand: internet business kills local stores. I used amazon a lot, but have moved away from that again, and now order there only when I can't get the item in town, or only for >significantly< more money. It's many of >our< jobs we kill when making some big fishes even bigger, and giving up on the local diversity of small shops.
Support small trade! They want to live, too.
See, that easily a question for banking safety can turn into a political declaration! :-j

My trick is to check my wishlist every couple of weeks and wait for those items I am after to be discounted 50-70% off then I snap them up. :smug:

Without Amazon and Google, Subsim would be broke
If anyone is going to buy a game, book, DVD, whatever, I would VERY much appreciate it if you would enter Anazon through the Subsim Store :yep: Every sale helps, guys. Thanks.

We had an account with Amazon.de but no one ever bought anything through it, after a year I took the links down. We do sell a couple items through Amazon UK every few months.

Have ordered many times from Amazon.ca and no complaints, no problems. They're awesome.
The only trouble I have ever had was in ordering items (books & music) which are no longer being published- Amazon say oooh, 4-6 weeks for that, last time I ordered something that was out of print it kept being deferred by amazon until after 12 month's I got pissed off and canceled my order.
So they're fine if it's something easily available or new, but they are next to useless for anything older or slightly rare.

Even the few times I've had problems with Amazon.com (damaged and missing items - once each), their customer service was quick, curteious and efficient.

I experienced the same excellent service when I purchased a multi-region DVD player for my mother which turned out faulty. I simply repacked it and swapped it for a different one and the whole process only took about 4 days with no fuss.
Another thing about Amazon that I like is the fact they don't bill your credit card or account until after the goods are actually shipped. It bugs me with some online retailers that bill you as soon as you place the order and you don't see the goods for another 4-7 days. :nope:

I've shopped with Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk and never regretted it. Only once did I have a problem. They sent me a CD instead of the book I'd ordered. I sent it back and got a nice apology email, along with a money off token for my next purchase. :)

Does anyone know if that's a legal requirement in the US and, if so, is it Federal of State law?

I'm talking about online vendors in the UK in this instance.

Yes, I know. I'm just asking if it's legally possible in the US to be charged before shipping a purchased product.
Hi everyone I’m back.
I shop on Amazon and had no problems in fact I have been very impressed by their service. And of cause their prices are cheaper than the shops.

I have had several occassions in which I used a check rather than a card. In every case they didn't ship until the check cleared. On the other hand, each seller told me that would be the case in advance, so I had no complaints.
So, no, it's not a law.
I too have used Amazon many times with no problems.

I buy so much through amazon UK (and amazon US for that matter). Maybe once or twice a month. Touch wood I've *never* had any problems.
Lately I've been waiting for and ordering each series of the highly realistic WWII Pacific war drama "It Ain't Half Hot Mum". :-j
I wasn't aware of the Subsim store (although the link is so obvious now ) Maybe I'll order series 4 via Subsim... :yep:

Thanks, guys, I cannot stress enough how much this helps and is appreicated. When things like server fees and technician fees arise, it is nice to have the funds from Subsim Amazon book, DVD, and games sales to pay them.

I will look for Lothar Gunther Buchheim`s picture books from the U.boat war through the German link. I still remember some German from school.
