View Full Version : Does fog exist in SH3? How broken is the weather code?

Absolutely *loving* this game with GW and the latest fixes / enhancements. However, I'm yet to see the moon :( and I've been through a 24-hour thunder and lightening storm and not even seen a cloud in the sky.
I'm aware that there are still some weather 'issues' that the devs never had time to fix, but am I missing out on a mod or a tweak that would at least give me some variation other than rain or clear day? :-?
There is most likely something wrong with your install. There is three different fogs; light, medium and heavy.
And you should see clouds if it´s raining. Try installing the game and mod again.

Dowly is right .. something must be wrong with your install .... The following pics I took with just the stock game and no mods running at all ..... the fog can be a real pain in the butt at times ....

Thanks for the feedback, guys. That's good to know. Any theories as to what may be causing the problem? I'm running quite a few mods together, but I haven't read of any weather problems as a result. Any thoughts?
1. Installed SH3
2. Installed patch 1.4b
3. Installed JSGME
4. Installed Grey Wolves 1.0 mod
5. Installed GW_armed trawler fix
6. Installed GW_new Ships Add-on 1.0
7. Installed GW_stock gun damage and reload
8. Installed GW_improved recognition manual
9. Installed GW_slide out dials
Just one thought... I saw flashes of lightening, but no rain. Is this normal? I'm guessing the clouds decend when the rain falls???
Has anyone else seen a 'dry' thunder storm? If so, perhaps I don't have a weather problem and will see fog when it rains.
I dont know if the GW mod changes anything regarding weather, but it is possible that your problem is not caused by mods.
There is always a tiny possibility when installing something to your computer from a CD/DVD, that the drive "jumps" when reading the disc and that results in corrupt install.
Do you use SH3 Commander? If so, try to first uninstall every mod you have using the JSGME. Then 'rollback' the SH Commander, and after that install the mods again.

I am indeed using SH3 Commander 2.5. I really ought to have mentioned that before!
I did install it after the mods, as instructed, but I will follow your advice and report what happens. This lack of fog is such a shame... especially after just watching Das Boot Director's Cut again as they try to pass through the Straits of Gibraltar.
Many thanks for your reply. Wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow! Will report back tomorrow evening...

Yes but heavy fog only appears in storms and heavy raining.
also with 16 km mod it starts at 300 meters, in this screenshots seems to be more close to the sub

I hate the fog. It's nasty, and dangerous. Lots of big waves washing over the bridge, 15knot winds, heavy rain.....and the damn fog!
BAH!!!!
ARRRR BILLY! THEM SEAS BE ANGRY! ARRRGGG!!
oh, right. I'm not a pirate, I'm a sub captain. :-j
The cool weather effects add a lot to the game. I hate it when they get screwed up.
Is there a mod to force weather so we can be sure things are working like they are supposed to be? I tried the SH3 Weather program. But I'm not sure it's working properly because I set some weather, but in the game it didn't happen. (It wasn't rendered and the watch officer didn't recognize it either.)

I've got GW and the weather is okay. I don't mind heavy fog, rain and sea - I'll sink em whatever the weather :arrgh!:

I'm pretty sure installing one of the atmosphere mods (8km or 16km) will fix this problem.
Try installing one from the optional mods folder of GW.

Will do... anyone have any recommendations as to which atmosphere mod I should go for?
Thanks again, one and all. :yep:
