I was on patrol in the Irish Sea when I encountered a convoy and used all but one of my torpedoes in sinking a troop transport and a tanker (the tanker was stubborn :stare: ). And I was headed back to my port when I encountered another convoy and at the center of it was a passenger liner. :o Do I have any chance of sinking it (the passenger liner) with a single torpedo?

maybe with photon torpedoes :S
try to: cripple the transport so that the convoy leaves it behind, then go to surface (preferably during the night) and open fire, if it is daytime fire for half an hour or so, then dive and move, so if the ship calls for air cover it wont be efective.
trust me, they do call for the RAF, once a C3 did so i was surpriced to see 3 planes that tryed to bomb me (not even close)

Your best bet is to wound it as already mentioned so he drops out of the convoy.. Im guessing you want to try and get your torpedo to hit under the keel, in the after quarter of the ship, just foward of the propellers. If you can flood that area, the ship should slow down or stop alltogether. Then Employ the deck gun at your liesure.

OR If your using auto-TDC, just use that magical silver bullet. Get to within 1000 meters, target a selected area using the recognition manual, and KABOOM, no more liner :rotfl:

Actually, in my experience P-liners have been very weak. I've sunk a whole bunch of them over the careers, and they usually go after one torpedo. It doesn't seem to matter where either. Not sure why. I can't remember if I ever had to hit them with a second one. Often they just blow all together. I rationalize to myself that warships are better fit to take damage, and PLs just flood up and sink. Take the shot. Hit the bastard. I wouldnt' count on a mag. pistol for my last shot. Make it nice and simple - impact pistol, 400m, aim for a critical compartment (i.e. engine room) then follow the previously mentioned strategy - surface after the convoy's long gone , preferrably at night, and shell the old slag till she rolls over.

P.S. This forum is okay with bastards, but not with b_tches. Hmmm.

In all my time playing, I have yet to see one. Ive sunk two battleships and a cruiser, but i have yet to see, let alone sink, a passanger liner or a flat top.

Go to Grand Banks >41. In my experience (RuB, TW), it's PL city; one with each convoy. Also, I feel noobish - what's flat top? A carrier? If so, man. I've seen a bunch. Again, >41 (or 42), lots of convoys have escort carriers. I've found illustrious in port (though I was tipped off) and I've also stumbled into her at sea. You've had a stack of careers. What areas do you like to hunt?

Depends on where im sent honestly. I tend to let the game assign the patrol grids, and then ill make diviations on my course based on where im being sent. I usualy end up in the caribean. But ive hunted in the gulf of mexico, off of haifax, new york, cuba, and curraco. on the other side of the pond, ill frequent the areas outside of gibralter, the passages off of spain/portugal, and freetown. Although, come to think of it, i havent hunted around halfifax that much, and that would be around the grand banks area.

Oh yah, flat top was a slang term used by US submariners for carrier. I sometimes get my theaters confused :88)

Har. I get it. I feel guilty about it. The other day someone made me feel guilty about pullin 40k on a patrol. I start to wonder whether I'm playing a different game! I meet a capital ship at least every career. I always try to intercept task forces after a reasonably close radio report (make a guess as to where they'll be, get there flank and set up a Zsearch). Everytime I hear fast warship screws in open ocean, or on a suspect route, I investigate. But with the PLs, it was all in convoy - get the convoy report, set up a search, find the convoy, shriek at the sight of a PL in the center, and then torp the bastard large. I've seen some ridiculous convoys in/out of halifax (around Grand Banks) in 42/43. T3X4, PL, Aux cruiser, C3s till yer bored of em, massive tonnage. An IX skipper's dream. If only it were deeper there....

I've been in a similar situation, and a little more difficult, since my last torpedo was on the stern tube. The PL was a loner, though.

I lined up very quickly because the Liner was running like crazy...
My crew missed the middle of the ship (Auto TDC), and the torpedo went into the front section of the boat (impact). It flooded very quickly and sank. Very lucky I guess...
