THe submarine is an unproven asw weapon.Discuss.( Please keep your answers to the subject and do not include any food)

It is a proven weapon, first of all if a submarine can track another undetected then it can attack no issue, the reason why america kept SSN's on the tails of the soviet SSBN's and said stay undetected was simply because if the time came to war the americans could take out the soviet SSBN's with in hours.

So it is a kinda proven ASW weapon.

A submarine has never destroyed another submarine since the end of the second world war.The technology has not been proven in combat. The weapons to be used have also only ever been used in trials.Do you ever see a redundant submarine being used to test new torpedos?

Well if we can say that conquorer sank the belgrano sucsesfully, and an american SSN can track a soviet SSBN undetected im pretty sure we are garenteed a 99% garentee that a submarine can destroy another close range undetected.

My point is about ASW(anti-submarine warfare) not a noisy WW2 cruiser.

Didn't a Dutch (or maybe UK) sub sink a U-Boat while both were dived using ASDIC for guidiance? :hmm:

Oh and who can forget the USS Batfish three Japanese subs in four days!

Royal Navy submarine did destroy a u-boat at the end of the war-but my discussion is about post war.I do not know any details of the USN boat to which you refer-perhaps TLAM you would like to tell us?Were the IJN submerged at the time?

Anti Submarine Warfare- a branch of naval warfare concerned with the prosecution of SUBMERGED enemy submarines

Indo pakistan war arab isreali war ships sunk by submarine, your request that a submarine sunk submarine after 1945 i dont think exists.

Kapitan that is why I am asking this forum if they agree with the fact that sub vs sub combat submerged has never taken place and is untried. The weapons are untried in combat and the whole thing is just supposition. My mathematician says that my adcap will kill you 75% of the time against the 55% 0f a 65-76.Unless a combat situation ever erupts we will never know who will triumph!!

I look at it like this. Todays subs are ultra quite. It takes ultra quite to find and target another ultra quite sub. So to me an submarine is the best platform to prosecute another sub. Allthough sub vs. sub combat has never taken place from coldwar era and up they have run computer simulations that says it works.

I also can't believe you want this thread to stay on topic. Thats just not done here. It's in the forum rules somewhere that it's each persons responsibility to try and sidetrack each thread, preferably religious or political in nature. :D

Are we talking about a submerged submarine's ASW capabillities, or a surfaced ones?

Submerged combat is what it is about-preferably without spam

I've heard of boats being set up as 'padded targets' for sub vs sub exercises, the 'padding' to prevent damage to the boats from the dummy torpedoes (it probably wouldn't damage the hull, but sonar arrays are expensive ;) ). I'm also sure I heard a dit about one of the Oberon class boats ending up with a torpedo jammed in it's fin during an exercise, this could be wrong though.

We are very capable of taking out an enemy sub with our submarine forece. They train constantly for this senario.

ffs do u have a brain we are the best asw platform and have been for 30 years plus if the surface ships are better then explain the numerous cvbg's that boats ive been on have penetraited and practiced attacks on them only noticing when they have a green grenade hitting them

if your gonna ask question's make em sensible one's

the reason no -one has sunk a sub with a sub for ages is that none of the capable nations have been at war since then the argy sub in the falkland was damaged by an air attack but if it had come anywhere near a uk sub it would have been gonners

also it may have not been practiced in your eyes but believe me its practiced constantly
