Got back from my first Type IX Operation Drumbeat mission. Anybody else get a weird feeling firing on that first ship flying that big American Flag. I actually missed two destroyers where they apparently saw the type I torpedo wake, & maneuvered out of the way. I had switched to ship view, and watched the torpedoes streak past them. Darned shame I thought. It was rough seas so I wasnt worried about getting away.

Just sitting here mumbling to myself.

I wonder what the Captain of the Bismark thought as he was running like hell from the British navy.

Don't know about the captain....but apparently Admiral Lutjens thought the mission doomed from the beginning. Feeling that the British where closing in (about the time the Royal Navy had lost him) He broadcast a long radio message detailing Bismarck's victory over the Hood the previous day. Berlin told him to keep quiet and observe radio silence...but by then it was too late. Bismarck was DFed and her doom sealed.
