I just bought a 17" Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop from Dell for only $899. Sweet stuff - Core Duo T2300, a/b/g wireless, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 100GB hard drive, DVD burner, etc etc.

But it comes with Intel integrated 950 graphics. I was unable to find any solid information on this card, but does anyone know if it will be able to run SHIII with decent playability? Please respond ASAP.

The GMA 950 is terribly slow, but it should be playable. Find out more about it here:

After many happy years as a mac-user I finally caved in and bought Windows XP to be able to play SH3 trough bootcamp. (Had so many happy memories from Silent Hunter I on my old Pentium II... :D) Since I am on a macbook my graphics are limited to GMA 950.

My question is: Does SH3 mostly rely on CPU power for running (I have a Core Duo 1,83gh)? My wishful thinking is that as long as my GPU meets the minimum spesifications the game will run satisfactory. Can I set graphics options to control framerates or is it "work" or "donīt work"?

By the way: what a wonderful forum! Lots of enthusiast is a godsend for immersive gameplay in "brain stimulating" games

Hi, and welcome to Subsim.com Captain,

it would be better if you told us your complete system specs, so the experts can tell you how it will run on your system.

enjoy the stay here:ping:

Allright, thanx!

My specs are:
Intel Core duo 1,83gh
Integrated graphics GMA 950 ; 64mb minimum memory --> 224mb max (shared)
2 gig ram

Running on Windows XP Home

Since I am on a macbook, buying a discrete videocard is out of the question.
I havenīt ordered SH3 yet since I wanted to hear from you people first...

I briefly tried stock SH3 on my Toshiba Satellite Pro U200-10D. This has Core 2 Duo T7200, 2GB ram and uses the Intel 950.

I tested with the mission where you go after an aircraft carrier TF in a Type XXI and it was definitely playable if not the best looking or most stutter-free experience. It was very noticeable that the fan in the Toshiba was on overtime kicking out the heat!

However, I then went back to my new desktop Core2Duo E6750 with Asus 8800GT to play SH3 (ooops - that should have read GWX2 ;)) so I'm afraid that was the end of my testing!

Ok, thank you for trying it out! I kind of expected it would be like what you described. But as long as I donīt get artifacts on my screen or slideshow fps Iīm happy. I guess I can forget about the graphic mods then...

I played SH3 on a computer at my previous work that used internal graphics (stock version, not GWX) It played OK, and didn't suffer too much.

Welcome aboard Kaleun http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

try the 'graphical' mods you fancy, one at a time (but only if they can be enabled with JSGME). That way you will soon find out what your system can manage and be able to uninstall them easily if it struggles http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/thumbsup.gif

I played GWX on a an ACER TM3012 with 2GB RAM an the Intel 950 GMA.
It worked ok, but NEVER enable the 16 km Atmosphere Mod, it will be to much, also for the DELL System
