April 7th, 1945 the day the IJNS Yamato finally got sunk, she was with 6 DDs and the Yagahi CL when sunk. 2000+ souls went down with her.

No it was 8 destroyers;
Asashimo, Hamakaze, Kasumi, Isokaze (sunk)
Fuyuzuki, Suzutsuki, Yukikaze, Hatsushimo (damaged)

Also 12 USN aircraft were shot down.

Guess I can't blame the Japanese for sacrificing her. If left intact at war's end she probably would have ended up as a test ship at Bikini Atoll like the Nagato. It's throwing away all the young lives that seems so pointless. :-?

I'm not to hot on the Pacific was the Battleship sent on a one way mission. It didn’t have enough fuel for the trip home so basically another suicide mission.

It's dramatic to see any ship sink, but a ship with 2.000 human beings can only bring me one thought: war is (often) disgusting business!

Yes, it was intended as a (suicide) one way trip... Not true the dockworkers disobeyed orders and gave them extra fuel to return home with.

Disobeying orders doesn't change the suicidal intention of the trip.

I disagree, it was not a suicidal trip as such. Just going out to be sunk? Even kamikazes were being used as guided missles, with the expendable guidance system a human pilot. The goal of the Yamato mission was to reach Okinawa, beach herself and be used as a huge shore battery. The reason she was carrying so many personnel IIRC was they were special naval infantry (the Japanese equivalent of the Marines) to reinforce the Okinawa garrison. The mission was a suicide one just because the chances for sucess were so slim, and this is the first I heard dockworkers gave enough fuel to return, doesn't square with the mission's purpose.
