Here are new anti-spam measures (for your and our well-being of course):

1.
Strickter anti-spam rules apply as of today 08:00 Zulu time.

2.
Spam-like postings are only allowed after recieving an SSSL (SubSim Spam Licence) signed by Neal Stevens or after written permission by your local moderator.

3.
Repeated spamming might lead to anything from a change in avatar to degradation in rank or even to the brig.

4.
A subsim investigation board will determine the exact number of Kapitan's posting deducting all double postings, one-line postings and multiple "lol" postings that could be considered as spam.
A preliminary review indicates that Kapitan's TPN (True Postings Number) is currently just below 187.

If Abraham is not kidding, I would welcome some anti-spam regulations. There is nothing wrong with some fooling around, but there are some members here who post just for the sake of posting, as though the number listed below their avatar is directly linked to their personal self-worth. That, I have never understood. You can give me a permanent post count of -12 and the medic avatar for all time. I wouldn't care. I just can't see why it is so important to some people.

I dont like to think i spam much but everyone has at some stage posted LOL thankyou ect ect it happens.

Why have i got 5000 well cause im on here most of the time ive got nothing better to do for another few months, fair do i dont sit at my PC all the time infact i do work to some extent.

My post count i couldnt realy care about it its not important but just the people thats the main thing you can learn alot here and make some pretty good strong friends thats what the silent service is about and i think realy that is what this forum is about.

I was kidding, but not completely.

It can be usefull for reasons of clarity to answer two different posts seperately.
But if I see double postings, I remove them without warning.
Also, since a few days I edit series of one-liner SPAM postings - if that's what they clearly are - into one multi-line non-SPAM message.
Furthermore I try to raise the awareness that SPAM is in general irritating for fellow forum members.
And finally, I think I know the General Topics Forum well and I know who's likely to SPAM or who's just making a mistake...
;)

For people who really love to SPAM there's always one or two SPAM threads where they can raise their postings-score.

Of course, giving a single sign of approval, thanking somebody for info etc. will never be considered SPAM.

The english sense of humour plus the way we use the language is very different to dutch-I know because I work with lots of dutchmen.Therefore Abraham you will always see posts in a foreign language and have to mentally translate them into your native tongue.This is obviously a big problem for a board in ENGLISH.I feel that the moderators of the boards should be native english speakers first because we will recognise things that you never will!When we all speak dutch it will not be a problem.I bet you did not understand my reference to Brighton in a post and I would not expect you to understand what it means.So do your job properly ,put your name against spam and ask someone who knows the english language before you judge someone's post!

The spam thing is hard to define but yes, we would like meaningful discussions. Occasional BS topics are ok, as long as they are funny or witty. Of course, as you know, the ranking system is fully automated and operates independant of my control, sort of like the Doomsday Machine in Dr, StrangeLove.... and if I understand it correctly, spammers, really bad spammers, are alway in jeapordy of triggering the "spammer nuclear option", that is, when they spam too much, Abraham or Drebbel push the History Erasor button and the ranking system sets the spammer's post count back to 5

what is going on here, is this spam thing more serious than i thought. is starting up heaps of posts really spam i thought spam was getting thousands of emails all at once. I experince this only once in my pc days when i told a company there hardware was way over priced, the person email back with a disgrunted email and told me to mind my own business, i email back and told him hes ripping of customers, next morning i get and email from him open it up an recieved 100's of spam flowing in that it made our server crash. Because of his stupidity he lost out on a hw deal, he didn't know it but i was asked by the boss to replace 42 of the staff computers. Dick Smiths got the deal instead.

Apparenty it was a father son business im guessing the son sent the spam. :nope:
