I have the possibility of a 2-year assignment in The Hague. Should I apply for the position? :hmm:

Do it Bill. Is a good experience to work in another country and really get to know what is driving them. Also very interesting to see what other really think of your own country and the rest of the world. it will make you grow, will make your life richer.

Bill, youll get to hang out with Dutchmen for 2 years, and you're still having doubts ?
For reassurance: I am an exception to the rule over here :P
Despite what news media can make you believe in the US, we (most of us) still like Americans over here  :)
And if you get Dutch employment benefits, therell be plenty of time to visit most of Europe as well. I dont think you will be sorry, but all depends on the quality of your lifestyle back home ofcourse. The greater that is, the worse it'll be abroad and even in Holland  :know:

I'm an exception too, as Neal can testify. And so is Drebbel.
I would say: go for it. It's a great country for (English speaking) foreigners.
I'm sure you won't regret it.

But you will forced to wear woodenshoes for two years straight, eat Boerenkool at least once a week, and to put a silly orange giant woodenshoe on your head during the Football world cup
Thats all mandatory my friend! :-j

The colloquial device employed above by Sharkstooth is refered to as facetiousness. In this case, a comment meant in jest is used as a ploy to illicit a like response from her fellow conversationalist. You will see 'playing coy' also used in the local vernacular for such a style of verbal mechanics.

As evidenced by a recent misunderstanding with TAL my sarcasm meter has been broken for quite some time.
