"We welcome the [manuscript] like we welcome the critical study of any text of ancient literature," Brandmuller said.

Still waiting for the Vatican to open their sealed vaults and libraries so that we can all critically study what the Church has been concealing for almost 2 millenia.

It was silver, actually, but it could've been Coke bottle-tops for all that it matters. And the word "betray" should actually be "denounce".

Not to derail the thread, but I'd like to see the stuff the Vatican was getting during the 1100-1492 era, as well as the early 700's. The early 1940's, as well. :-?

The Roman Catholic Church is aware of the manuscript, which a Vatican historian called "religious fantasy."

That's funny on two levels :D
