Ater a fleeting go at this game I came back and applied myself to the task of being a U-Boat commander. It was only with SHIII patched to 1.4b along with the excellent SHIII Commander V2.4. There were no major realism mods involved except for the Additional Merchants mod V.2 and some skins. I did use the realistic career length setting which probably explained why my career wasn't a marathon. The results taken from my SHIII Commader Personnel File:

After his duty at the front, Ben Von Karajan served to the end of the war on the BdU op staff as first naval staff officer (1. Asto). After the war Ben Von Karajan spent several years in the Bundesmarine (German postwar Navy). He died on 26 April 1963 in Ussel / Waldeck.

Time I think to move on to a bigger boat and a later time period with perhaps increased difficulty via the realism settings and also a realism mod applied. The question now is which one. :hmm:

SNAP

I have had the game since day one and have still not finished a campaign although I hope to survive this current one. The year is late 43 and every patrol is tougher. Thank God for my mettox and snorkel.

I have decided along with my officers that convoy attacks now will take place at long range and we will use our hard earned reknown to purchase ladder fish for our next patrol.

Good Luck.

Well, if that was done at 100% and no resetting if killed (If sunk career starts over), than that would be super.
I have ended careers of 18-20 patrols to install new packs but have just reached April 44 (early 43 start) as I am trying to master the end part do try a 30-45 career.
I have doubled the number of escorts in all convoys and my weakest crew rating for all escort types is =3 so I am making it very hard.
Even set on easy setting, bad luck or one dumb mistake makes completing any career difficult

The realism was at about 80 something % from memory and I was never killed or had to reset the mission. I didn't have one single engagement with aircraft as I always opted to crash dive and avoid any chance of suffering an unlucky hit. I think I will try one more career with the same settings but later on in the war and after that will ramp up the realism settings fully.
