NATO wants Finland to become more involved with its operations and decision-making processes. The military alliance announced that it will present a proposal in 2008 which will seek to give both Finland and Sweden more say in the missions they take part in.
This would not mean becoming members in NATO. Both countries are frequent participants in NATO-led peacekeeping operations, and have revamped their military arsenals to be NATO-compatible.

The suggestion for closer co-operation was made by the United States. The Finnish government has promised to consider the proposal once it has been received.

NATO is also trying to improve co-operation with Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

We should find a new name for Nato, especially when countries like Australia, New Zealand and Japan would participate.

Ofcourse in a global world we are going to see large global alliances with more co-operation. This alliance can contain China and Russia in the Eurasian cotinent from allsides.

Why? Are China and Russia menacing world peace like some other (lets say smaller for now) states? Russia is suffering from terrorism too in case you forgot. How many countries has China invaded in its history? I know I know, I support Tibet and the Tibetans, but really lots of countries have been attacked who don't have Richard Gere agitating for their release.

Really some people need to get their heads out of the Cold War. :stare:

Actually I was trying to point out that such an Organisation would only serve as a bunch of lackeys for Washington. You see: D.C. Treaty Organisation...
