For WaW players.. WHAT was your greatest experience

Say Hello to L.z.S Johann Werner a new Kapitan in the 7. Flotilla at St. Nazaire! I will join you WaW in your next patrol. I like the idea of us being doomed, and specially me being a new Kaluen in this time of panic, but i wanna survive as long as i can.

Anyway the point of this topic is i wanna know what has been the most rewarding,realistic, and overall greatest experience in a WaW patrol. I wanna know about realism, i have turned in my Solbuch and everything, all i need now is orders and upgrades and some advice and feedback. I have lurked around the WaW forum but never quite understood EVERYTHING. Anything i wish all the WaW kaluens a safe passage back to the 7.Flotilla on patrol 20, and i will join u for patrol 21.

I have to say, that the happiest time I have had in WaW, was when I was in the 29th Flotille, La Spezia. I really liked to play in Med, but then it was disbanded and now I´m in 2nd flotille.

The coded message on page three was a permission request, to and photograph Valletta for intelligence office. This is the mission, where I got pounded with 170+ DC´s in 30-40m deep waters. You can imagine the pressures I had, the deeper waters were only ~10km away.

I have a thread here somewhere from about 2-3 months ago about being DC'd and hounded while submerged by 2 escorts for over 10 hours. Through suggestions here from posters, I managed to get away by diving way below what I thought the uboat could take.

Now? NYGM Tonnage Mod. But my escapade above took place before it was out. Then I was running with RUb 1.45, a few minor glitch fixes and numerous eyecandy mods.

Off Rockall Bank, between columns of merchants--being pursued by escort, one torpedo left and an easy shot to the belly of a T-2. Only to have view thru ASR blocked by tramp steamer. Can't make the shot...unless we switch to Mz-Pi and aal's depth to 10.5m. Mach Schnell!

We fire and it slides beneath the steamer and detonates beneath the tanker. Crash dive, hard right rudder to avoid the escort climbing up our hind quarters.

EMERGENCY REPORT

WHILE CONDUCTING AN ATTACK U325 WAS AMBUSHED BY A FLOWER CORVETTE THAT CAME FROM INSIDE THE CONVOY. NO SHOTS TAKEN 6 TORPEDOES REMAINING.

FLOWER CORVETTE ORGANIZED A WORST EVER DC ATTACK ON U325 357+ EXPLOSIONS (THERE WAS NO TIME TO COUNT AFTER THE FIRST HOUR) BY FLOWER, BLACK SWAN, ANOTHER BLACK SWAN AND HUNT I. i WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM ATLEAST THESE AS I TOOK A QUICK PEEK AT PERISCOPE DEPTH AFTER THEIR FIRST FURIOUS DC RUN. THEN IT WAS LIKE FLAK OVER BERLIN EXPLOSION AFTER EXPLOSION PINGS BOUNCING SO OFTEN IT ALMOST SOUNDED LIKE A TORMENTING ONE LONG PING. ATTACKS CAME FROM ALL DIRECTIONS.

1840 FORWARD BATTERIES WERE DESTROYED AND HEAVY FLOODING IN COMMAND ROOM, BOW QUARTERS BOW TORPEDOROOM. MATROSEGEFREITER FRITZ ROLLMANN DIED WHEN A TORPEDORACK COLLAPSED AND HE WAS CRUSHED BY THE LAST SPARE TORPEDO. U325 PLUMMETED IN SUCH A SPEED IT WAS UNCONTROLLABLE. HIT BACK EMERGENCY AND BLEW ALL BALLAST. MEANWHILE BOAT WAS FILLING IN GASSES OUT FROM THE DESTROYED BATTERIES. FIRES BROKE OUT IN BOW QUARTERS. AT 230M U325 STARTED TO RISE AGAIN TRIED TO LEVEL HER OUT IN 30M BUT WAS HIT AGAIN DOING FLANK AHEAD 1KTS, U325 WENT CRASHING DOWN AGAIN THIS TIME SLOWER BUT, WITH NO SPARE AIR TO BLOW. I ORDERED AS MANY MEN TO PUMPS INTO THE BOW AREA, AND REST TO STERN TORPEDOROOM. BOW TORPEDO ROOM WAS FILLED WITH WATER ALREADY BUT LUCKILY THIS WORKED TRICK WORKED AND BOW QUARTERS WERE FREE OF WATER IN 5 MINUTES AND ALL THE MEN WORKING IN THERE WENT TO HELP THE GUYS TRYING TO PUMP THE WATER OUT FROM THE TORPEDO ROOM. THE ORGANIZED A LINE OF BUCKETS AND STARTED MOVING WATER INTO THE STERN AREA. WITH PUMPS PUMPING AND BOAT SLOWLY LEVELING WE FELP THE RELEASE AS THE BOW STARTED TO RISE SLOWLY. TERROR WAS NOT OVER YET. AT 240M I WAS AFRAID THAT U325 WOULDN´T HOLD IT BUT MIRACULOUSLY IT DID. SLOWLY WE STARTED OUR JOURNEY TO SURFACE. LUCKILY AS WE GOT RID OF THE WATER THE SPEED PICKED UP TO FLANK SPEED 3KTS. 36 EXPLOSIONS WERE HEARD BEHIND THE BOAT BUT ALREADY SO FAR OUR HOPES ROSE A BIT. THEN SUDDENLY ALL THE ESCORTS CRUISED AWAY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.

SURFACED AT 2000. TOOK SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM CONVOY BEFORE RADIO REPORT. RETURNING TO BASE. CONSTANT FLODING UNDER THE GUN CASING FORWARD BATTERIES DESTROYED. CANNOT DIVE ANYMORE. MAX LOADING 10% WILL HAVE TO CROSS BISCAY SURFACED. HOPING FOR BAD WEATHER. WX HIGH SEAS DENSE FOG.

Actually, most of these are just typical WaW experiences. For me, my favorite was the Happy Times for the 2.Flottille, which came in 1942 with Drumbeat. There was lots to do and you'd always be on top of everyone else's adventures - it seemed like a lot would happen, but at the end of the patrol it was a good feeling coming back to base and seeing that everyone made it back too.

Oh, and just before that, too - my attacks on South Atlantic convoys. I'd really developed a whole methodology for sneaking up on convoys on the surface, and it was really exhilirating manuevering past escorts. Especially of note was the time that I managed to run into TWO convoys when they passed within just a few miles of each other - having to manuever between them and both their escorts. The prize for me was a cruiser :smug:

I miss the Happy Times. On the other hand, the late war makes for some great tension. But the Happy Times really were a markedly different time for WaW, as they should be.

WaW 2 is going to be great - but you knew that :up:
