Karle's Enigma Codebook Tool

EDIT: Oops: Note to self to not upload stuff when you are about to go to bed a 5am. Sorry guys the original upload was missing the pink page background and the red text. I had switched them off during testing and forgot to re-enable them before I uploaded.

I should probably start this by saying "Hi my names Eric and I'm an Enigma User......."

I initially made this primarily for my own use but now that it's done, I thought some of you guys might like it also so I thought I'd share. Ever since someone pointed me to this site http://users.telenet.be/d.rijmenants/en/enigmasim.htm and the enigma simulator is contains I've been more then a little obsessed with it and greatly regret that something like this was not implemented with in the game. Recently when I checked the above site, I found that the designer had released a codebook generator which created text files with randomly generated settings for the:

* Walzenlage: Choice and order of wheels
* Ringstellung: The ringsetting, the position of the rotor wiring, relative to the alphabet rings
* Steckerverbindungen: The plug connections on the plugboard

of the enigma machine. These codebooks were produced and distributed to the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine units who would then use each calendar days unique settings to set up their enigma machines.

What I have done is use the wonderful aforementioned utility to create codesheets for each month from 1939 to 1945 and created a "Macromedia Flash" animation simulating a codebook containing all of the sheets. You click on the arrow in the top-right corner of the book to open it, select the year of your career and the month you require and all the settings for that month are available for you to set up the simulator correctly. Hopefully people who are involved in role-play campaigns might find this useful

You can have a look at an online version on my profile site Click Here (http://www.dot-whatever.com/U-Boat/page/codebook.html)

AND if you wish you can download a version for your desktop here: The file is embedded in a web page and you will need to have the Flash plugin for your browser (most people will already have this so it shouldn't be a problem

I hope some of you find it useful

Enjoy

@ Moderator type peeps: As this isn't strictly a game mod I thought this was the best forum to post it in. If I was wrong then please accept my apologies and feel free to move it, if necessary

Awesome! This wil lbe a great addition to my Wolves at War campaign when I post communications.

I suggest that you stop by the Wolves of War forums and post this there too. I'm sure there will be many who will enjoy this.

*EDIT* Arg, for some reason lately I can't download anything from RapidShare.

I actually had them included but had disabled them during testing and forgot to enable them again before up loading. DOH!!! Issue is now corrected and the link in the OP is to the latest correct version. Sorry guys
