this is a career log for my second gw career. im playing on high realism cept for mapupdates. i adjusted the decay time for mapcontacts to 0, to not get those gamey bdu reports on single ships all the time. i used the unified campaign for the last 3 patrols.

lone steamer sighted at 2250. U551 attacked the large merchant with a double fanshot at 2315, which causes the ship to break in two parts, under a heavy explosion.

during a standart night time soundcontact checkat 0530, the hydophone room reported sound contact on a broad band at 310 degrees. multiple ships. probably convoy.
at 0730 an additional hydrophone check revealev multiple contacts. slow and fast screws. foggy conditions with calm seas, are making visiual detection difficult.
after a 2 hour long aproach, U551 fired its last two bow torpedos on two large merchants. one ship damaged. lost contact, after escort evasion.

single merchant sighted. daytime submerged aproach, but a double fanshot failed. probably too close for the warheads to arm. after aprox 70 rounds from the deckgun, the steamer slowly settled by the starbord side and went under at 1305.
2nd april 1941
at 0200, U551 sighted a convoy steaming NEN. because of a calm seastate and good visibility, a surface attack was considered too risky. the following submerged attack resulted in a large merchant ship sunk. escorts counter attacked, and U551 was now subject to a intense two hour depthcharge hunt from two destroyers. aprox 80 charges where droped. the boat suffered slight damage. at around 0820, U551 surfaced again, and resumed chase.

at 0506 the BDU vectored U551 to a convoy sighting, aprox 150km south of the boats current position. sector CF37. high speed pursuit.
U551 reached a calculated interception point at 1000, and started a search pattern.

convoy changed course to N at around 1830.

first sighting at 0040. relatively calm seas and overcast skies, with a slight fog. perfect conditions for a night surface attack.
U551 started its attack run at 0255. torpedohits on two merchants, which caused one of the ships to lose speed and drop behind the convoy.
another torpedo and aprox 40 rounds from the deckgun where needed to finaly sink it at 0927. resumed chase. at 1305 a lone steamer was sighted, who probably droped out of the convoy formation. the steamer was missed by a double fan shot. U551 raked the merchant with fire from its deckgun for several minutes, till the crew of the now burning freighter decided to abandon ship. just as the uboat was about to finish it of, another ship was sighted. probably another straggler. U551 imediatly went after the new target. double torpedo hit at 1430 norwegian tanker, which came to a halt and deveoped severe list. the ship sank at 1447.
coup de grace on the stationary merchant with the last torpedo.
fuel below 50% and no torpedos left. homebound course.

at 0430, U551 was suprised by a corvette, charging out of a rainsquall. havy fog, choppy sea and rainfall caused very bad visibility. crashedived. after a short deapthcharge attack, the destroyer lost contact. U551 stayed submerged for several hours and resumed its old course. sector DT33.

U551 reached its assigned area of patrol. EJ98.

smoke on horrizon. enemy convoy sighted in EJ66, heading north. time: 1345
daylight submerged attack. three hits on a large merchant, and one hit on a medium merchant at 1647. two escorts counterattacked, but U551 could successfully evade. the large merchant was sunk by gunfire at 1825. contact regained at 2115
double torpedo hit on a merchant at 2237. U551 was imediatly located by the escorts, and was subject to a 90 min detphcharge hunt. the boat sustained moderate damages. abandoned convoy chase because of repaires. forward batteries where permanently put out of action. coup de grace on the stoped damaged merchant. sunk at 0055.

HIghspeed surface night run. torpedo hits on two steamers. both ships went imediatly down. time of attack: 0340
next attack at 0445, and again U551 sunk two merchants. a weak escort and other uboats operating on this convoy created this golden opportunity. U551 reloaded its last two internal bow torpedos, for a third attack. at 0535, U551 scored two torpedo hits on two steamers from a submerged attack position. one sunk imeadiatly, while the other target fell behind the convy formation. it was sunk at 2145 via a coup de grace from the stern tube.
