Der Teddy Bar got me thinking in another post:
This is how the enemy response works and why is so easy to sail up and down the coast and choke points as if you own the place.
Any vessel that sees you sends out a sighting report.
Escorts...
Escorts will respond to a sighting of your u-boat if they are within 20k's of you. If they are 21k's then they will not show up.
BUT... If the Lost contact time= is exceeded before the escort arrives, it simply turns back around and leaves.
If the escorts have found you and you manage to shake them off, the after the Lost contact time= is up, they just leave.
Most mods have Lost contact time=40
I *REALLY* like the idea of nearby destroyers coming for a look see after a subsighting. Default lost contact time is 15, and 15 isnt enough time to get in the vacinity before they lose intrest.
That said, breaking contact late war, for 15 consequitive mins, let alone 40 mins, is borderline impossible. More often then not, the other 4 or 5 escorts lose intrest while one always doggidly remains behind. ( and often calling his friends back).
So back to that Lost contact time=40. How do I make this playable given late war AI behavior?
I could:
- Impose a maximum depth limit on passive, but they can still ping me 9 ways to sunday. I dunno about that, whats to stop me from running at flank speed alot?
or
- Impose a maximum depth limit on active, but that i think would tilt the scales a litle TOO far in my favor.
or
- Furthe reduce AI active sonar, as its too good anyway.
Right now i have my game where the min distiance is 75, and the max angle is 90. By way of comparision, jungmans fix i beleive is min distance of 120, and max angle of 70.
Personnaly i dont think i want to increse the min active sonar distance as i feel it makes them entirely too innaccurate. So what do you think the results would be if i left the min distance at 75, but reduced the beam angle from anywhere from 40 to 50 to a 60 degree cone? I want evasion possible, but i dont want a cakewalk.
