Last night i patrolled my grid. saw a few light merchants but the wave were too high for my deck gun and since my u-boat is a VIIB i spare my torpedo's for bigger ships. after i completed my orders it was time to set sail to the hunting grounds :arrgh!:
This was my first time i had a sub capable of attacking a convoy so with much convidence i went to those grounds!
So i patrolled the grids AM19 and AM18 and suddenly i recieved a radio message. just at AM17 there was a large convoy, speed slow, heading east. and as it was planned the weather was clear, no clouds, wave's or wind. so i turn around and set sail flank hoping to catch up with the convoy. i sailed and sailed, got 2 more contact reports of the convoy and then, i didn't hear anything from this convoy. and as i had set a good intercept course, i was wondering why i missed this convoy.
once i decided to sail back to AM19 the wheater changed. it was night and there were very heavy rains and storm.
As this was just a normal cruise my best crew was resting and only a few sailors were watching this bad sea under command of an watch-officer. also my radio and hydrofone was manned by two sailors so i could spare my officers for the fight at the convoy.
And suddenly i hear: "Depth Charges in the water sir!!"
WTF!! i quickly tapped F12 for free view, and there in the mist, an destroyer sailed at full speed right ahead for me. my first reaction was "Back Emergency!" But it was to late, he rammed me from the forward. "Were taking damage sir!!"
i quickly get to my Crew and damage management, and assigned some crew to repair the damage.
then i swapped back to free view, just quick enough so see my u-bout hitting the destroyer because the Destroyer was making a sharp turn, and i was still going back! a big spotlight came to my tower as i pressed C, "EMERGENCY DIVE!!! ENGINES FLANK!!"
now it was the time to assign my best crew were they were needed. so i assigned my experienced crew to my radio and hydrofone and then my mouth fell wide open.:o
my crew reported merchants in all directions!! and of course his escort . swapped to free view again and saw my sub just didn't hit a merchant. my sub was about a few cm's off the very hard bow of the C2 Cargo!
"Depth charges in the water sir!"
a few moments later i hear loud explosions and...
"WE have flooding sir!!"
And then, BOOM!, damage everywhere and my speed was 0 kts!
WTF!!
a i looked again at free view, i saw my sub laying at the bottom of the sea ruined everywhere! so i blowed ballast and rised up to 30 meters. there i begun to gain speed and i ordered for silent running. i had damage to repair but once killed, it doesn't matter i have damage or not.
i used my radio operators as guide and as a miracle i was able to sneak away from the convoy. i raised to periscope depth and when the convoy was finally out of sight, i surfaced. and now was the time for repairing my entire boat. except for the command room, everything was damaged. but lucky me, nothing was destroyed.
i wanted to take revenge, but the convoy dissapered just as it appeared. in my rage i sank a few lonely merchants and returned to base!
i'm happy i survived the ambush of the convoy, but i didn't expect my first contact with a convoy this way.
well, Next patrol, they will die!
