well after over 2 months of 3 AM work' going lame in my right leg from sitting to long my new timeline SH3 MOD is days away from posting. all i need is for a friend i am counting on to clean up my writing and its ready. well yeah i do have a few tweeks here and there. the question i have for those interested is where should i post it once its done and in what format, zip, RAR or what.
Basicly i rebuilt the entire war from May, 25th 1940 until the Allied final surrender in June 26 1945. Of course Hitler dies anyway - shot by one of his generals. i created the new scenario trying to create a situation where the u-boat war would shift into attacking warships as its main targets, with merchants taking second place. it also provides chances of u-boats joining up with German surface ships to battle allied ships on a regular basis. sort of increasing the single player game to a multi-player status. it also allowed me to move flotilla bases around as needed - usually several times in the war. i could also introduce the Japanese in a new light, with them taking Midway early and terrorizing the southeastern Pacific with battle groups.
And what brings about this new scene? Hitler's first real military mistake (other than being the redneck German creep he was) is altered. Instead of listening to his fat friend Goering and stopping his panzers at Dunkirk, he is shown the results of such actions in graphic detail by a time traveler. He makes up his mind to suffer any loss at Dunkirk, rather than millions later on by Allied bombing from England. He orders his panzers to crush the Brits and French at Dunkirk with no regard to losses. Britain suffers the loss of about 200,000 of their best men not to mention a total political melt down. From that point the war spins out of control for both the USA and England. Hitler adroitly drops open alliance with Japan - though his time-traveler helper allows Hitler to supply the Japanese with info on how to sink the 3 carriers at Pearl Harbor. He also avoids invading Russia until 42, thus avoiding the worst Russian winter in over 100 years.
All of that is mere backdrop and fictional fluff to give an excuse for creating a war where the u-boat is no longer wrapped around attacking England's supply lines. Since England is in German hands by 1941, it is now Germany that must worry about Free-British raiders - that is, those that fell back on Canada and the rest of their Empire. Instead of 'Sink The Bismarck' , this war has the call 'Sink the King George'. Since America really is impossible to starve out by shinking ships (especially in the 1940s when Texas oil was king), Germany uses its u-boats mainly in the role of warship-killers, something the u-boat was first planned for prior to WWI.
but this requires a smarter u-boat captain, than merely one that beats up on wallowing hulks carrying crates. and of course the points have been altered - sink a DD in this game and its better than sinking 2 Cargo 3s. and the lure of such reward i found suddenly makes DDs look alot more juicy.
i don't expect those who are historical detail nazis to show much interest for this game, since it is not dotting more 'i's or crossing more 't's. its designed for those who have just about worn out their SH3 disk and are tired of piloting the channel to Brest for that millionth time.
