View Full Version : How many Qualifications to award ?
The basic game allows only one qualification per patrol, with SH3 Commander I can award more, but how many would be fairly realistic?
:hmm:

You couldnt really "award" something like that in real life anyway, so its up to yourself. How long do you think it would take you to be really good at aiming a deck gun, or coordinating people loading torps, or as an engineer?
i suppose its unrealistic to think that only one person learns anything per patrol, but if you just hand out the one award, it would represent the balance of time fairly well.
Id leave it the way it was. For all you know you might have been landed with a crew of idiots, and i dont just mean the watchcrew or sonar operator.
I guess what I was thinking of is that in between patrols crew members were sometimes sent to Torpedo School for instance. But I have no idea how frequent this sort of training was etc.

In the 21st Flotilla - which aims to play as realistically as possible - we allow a maximum of two qualifications per patrol using SH3 Commander. Medals/promotions cannot exceed those awarded in-game. Hope this helps.
Enfilade, Doesn't sound bad. I've been thinking that it doesn't make too much sense that my Type II crew gets so many medals, promostions & Qualifications for very short patrols while my Type IX crew gets less even though they are spending alot more time at sea.
Two Quals for the type IX crew might even things out a bit. With more tonnage I suspect they will get about as many medals but the quals seems kinda unfair.
Great that SH3 Commander gives us so many options!

If you play with 'realistic crew transfers' checked in SH3 Commander, then awarding two quals per patrol is quite reasonable as you have a good chance of losing a qualified crewman per patrol in any case..
