Although I'm by no means a full time movie watcher I was pretty impressed by L.A. Clash.

I thought Serenity was really good too. :yep: I also liked Underworld: Evolution even though nobody else seemed to like it (I like Vampire movies).

I was never sure why Firefly didn't catch on, although I never watched the series myself. Battlestar Galactica (the new version) is better though. But this thread is about movies.

Battlestar Galactica = best sci-fi series on TV. I can't wait for season 3 to start :yep:

^Thats why... ;)

Battlestar Galactica = best sci-fi series on TV. I can't wait for season 3 to start. If Firefly and Space: Above and Beyond were still on TV BSG would really have some competition!

Actually, I didn't know the show existed until reruns were being played. I now like it (although the movie was indeed better than the series). But that statement did sound wrong. :D

EDIT - Some people have said that Star Trek DS9 was the most similar show to BSG. I liked DS9, but it is not as good as BSG.

That's because Ronald D. Moore produced both shows. He came on board DS9 as a producer and writer during the 3rd season, and after being promoted to a co-executive producer he was in effective control during the last two seasons. He was responsible for the dark storylines in DS9's later seasons, though obviously he still had to work within the previously established framework of the show. The new BSG on the other hand was Moore's project from the beginning, thus he had almost unlimited freedom to mold it to his vision.

I really liked The Constant Gardener, Walk the Line, and Memoirs of a Geisha (read the book as well)... but they all paled in comparison to

Kung Fu Hustle - is there actually a movie worth watching this year? I gave up trying to go to the movies because I can't stand paying some godawful amount of money to see something that bores me to tears!

My wife dragged me to go watch Casanova, which was OK, but was lacking something. At least it was somewhat funny.

But now my curiosity has peaked at this Kung Fu deal. Must go check it out!

My motto:

Why bother going to the cinema for those new crap movies when one can watch at home ?

-Das Boot
-Godfather all parts + bonus dvd
-Glengarry Glen Ross
-Blue Max
-the Bounty
-BOB
-Der Untergang
-Platoon
-Apocalypse now redux
-etc etc etc etc

Give me one good reason to sit out inferior movies in noisy, stinking theatres.

My thoughts exactly! Besides, their sound equipment is way inferior to what you can have in your home, and theirs even has a tinge of distortion thrown in for good measure! Yuck!

We have a local theater that shows old movies. Sometimes they have one I want to see. A couple of years back I finally got to see Battle Of Britain on the big screen.

The question was : the best movie of last year, isn't it? :hmm:

What about 'Syriana'? I did not see it yet, anybody does?

Abraham

You're right Fish, I was off topic, reacting on Sixpack's list.
'Syriana' I still want to see. I saw 'Münich' though. Very impressive. The movie is more about the direct and indirect suffering caused by terror attacks and it's terrible consequences for everybody concerned then about a bunch of counter-terrorist hero's. In the end you get the feeling that everybody involved with terrorism and counter-terrorism looses his/her sanity.
