Suprised this hasn't been discussed yet.

For those who don't know, the House has passed this in December http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:HR04437:@@@D&summ2=m&

The Senate has yet to decide on anything though, we'll see in the near future.

I think that while this bill may be one of the most effective bills passed (in it's current state, which it won't be in if it gets passed by the senate) concerning immigration reform/border security. Unfortunately, that doesn't say a whole hell of a lot. The most important part is employment verification IMO. Physcial security measures are just dandy, but there will be a way to defeat them as long as there is such a large labor demand. It will be interesting to see what happens in the Senate. Incredibly difficult to pass immigration legislation that actually means anything with the massive employer lobby and Congress unwilling to address the economic realities of the issue (see IRCA).

And as for any guest worker programs that may be introduced, bad idea IMO! If anything the Bracero program seems to have encouraged illegal immigration.

I agree with this idea totally but it is a catch 22...Your neighbor in AZ...I feel the pain.
