I had a VII earlier in my career, when I couldn't find any convoys, just single merchants.

Convoys and carriers. Never sunk a carrier. :-? Were do you get them, and with what mods? I play NYGM tw with full reaism. Had a good career come to end when tried to attack a Hunter Killer groups Bogue, it was risky but who wouldnt take the shot..

Convoys. The only carrier I've ever sunk was the escort carrier out of a hunter killer group in mid 1944 on a prior career. It was my first time out in a XXI and I just couldn't pass it up. I almost didn't get away; those destroyers were GOOD.

So far all of my tonnage has come from lone merchant and cargo ships.

I had a radio contact with a convoy but I only has two torpedos left and they were in the aft tube and aft reserve.

Ive been playing with the Spy_Sat mod for the last couple of patrols its good to have if you want to have a quick game as you will find alot of convoys to choose from, also watching there paths helps you to avoid places where there is no traffic when playing the game with top realism. Sometimes ive spent whole patrols with no tonnage and had to return to base because of low fuel :damn: Oh yeah i could sink a escort or two but im talking about merchants. 1 or 2 patrols have been zero tonnage. Then I enabled the spy__sat and saw that the convoy's path was approx 200miles from where i was patroling. In other words i just missed them.

Of course though this is a cheat you will see all convoys on the map, plus taskforces

Convoys.

I use 100% realism, but also play strictly by the tactical principles in the Uboat Commanders Handbook, especially regarding use of the hydrophones and torpedo allocation.

Generally, on 1 out of 3 patrols I will get no contacts, and I have to return to base due to low fuel.

I have never seen a carrier, but had a BB Taskforce pass me once, but I could not get into position for a good shot.

Convoy's get Torp (escorts only), DG and FG (depending on ship type) - Task Force's get Torp - Single shipping gets DG/FG (depending on ship type) only. 100% realisim.

Since august 42 i only find 2 convoys, all my tonage was with single or doble ships.

On a normal patrol i usually sink 1-2 lone merchants on my way to a patrol area, then get the rest off convoys 3-4.
But im in the med now, and just losing completly. Aborting patrols from damage sinking only 1 ship out of a small convoy. Which is usually just 1 tramp steamer and 2 escorts.

Mainly convoys.

Definately convoys. They're the bread and butter of my VII patrols. With the VII's small size, it's easy to sneak in, do significant damage, then sneak out. Singles are just a bonus.

Still wish I'd see a real taskforce, though. I've spent numerous patols off Gibratar, only to watch reports of task forces up by the British Isles.

When leaving from Bergen, there´s always a taskforce nearby in 1943-44. I´ve spotted it on every patrol I´ve done. :)

And in WaW the 11th Flotille (Bergen) has sunk multiple carriers. We are not allowed to attack them anymore, because by the end of the war we would have sunk 10000 carriers. :rotfl:

So far on my second patrol my tonnage has come from lone merchant and cargo ships cruising between screens of warships. I'm trying to reach Grid BE I think, from Kiel which takes me through the English Channel. So it makes sense that there's a lot of escorts and warships.

I took out an Armed Trawler with my deck and flak guns. Took a bit longer that it should do to my crew's rookie level. When I could I took over control to take out his main gun. I also took out a V&W Destroyer while it was hunting me with a stern torpedo. After reading some of the posts here on how to avoid detection and slipping past destoryers it wasn't to hard to keep him guessing and lured him into a perfect firing solution.

Rather unhistorically most of my tonnage comes from convoys - most Uboot successes were with lone merchants. This is one of the things the NYGM group is planning to work on.

So hopefully convoys will get harder to attack but there will be more single / tandem ships out there.

They actually come from both but i rather attack single ships then convoy's

Single ships but those include those in harbors that I raided early in the early war years before they were better defended. Usually patrol around choke points later in the war and try to avoid the big convoys that are better defended and have better tools to find me.

Hey John O, i'm from atlanta (dekalb county). Sorry, anyway i just tend to use my fish on the first thing i see. I dont hunt on covoy routes very often so my tonnage probably comes from the singles or the occasional two or three pack.
