I have played this game loooong time now. did just install the gray wolf mod...great mod by the way. but...I dont have the pleasure of playing with XXI in a real warpatroll and loong one. Sure. i did try it and started my carrier -44 and cheat alittle to hade afford to buy the boat, but. how can i cheat so i get the XXI in the begining of the war. Why i want to do this, becourse i have played the game so loong time now..and have tried all the other boats my earn them, but XXI if i get it, i can only play with that a couple of month and the war is over. I want to play more with that. HOW? love to have patrolls to USA on the drumbeatle operation and so on.

2. Now goto your Basic.cfg file / open and search for [SUBMARINE_AMMO11];XXI to find the parameters related to the type XXI sub. Then paste all the info above over the original [SUBMARINE_AMMO11];XXI list.
3. Edit the [CONING_TYPE12] ;XXI/1 section. Change Year=1943 to Year=1939.
4.Edit the [AMMO_TYPE9];2cm FK C/38 Flakzwiling XXI section. Change Year=1943 to Year=1939.
SAVE
Now we need to edit the Flotillia.cfg.
1.Open the file.
2.Find the flotilia section you need to edit. For example we want add type XXI to the 1st flotillia which has the Flotilla0=902 id.
3.In the Flotilla0=902 section find the NbUboats0=2 string and change it to NbUboats0=3 string. This is the number of available submarines.
4. Now we need to specify a new third submarine. Find the following strings:
Uboat0_0=0
Uboat0_1=1
5. Add :Uboat0_2=3.
Uboat0_0=0
Uboat0_1=1
Uboat0_2=3
6. Repeat this steps for other flotillias if you need. For example for the 2nd Flotillia:

Save.
Now to fix the sub files.
1. Goto the Type XXI Sub folder found in */Silent Hunter III/Data/Submarine/NS_Uboat21.

I experimented with this alot awhile ago, and i always ended up with the same behavior.
Start a new patrol with a newly aquired XXI, and you start with a patrol grid. After that, i'd never see a patrol grid assignment again. In hindsight you could aways use SH3 commander and give yourself any grid you want, but to me it really takes away from the game when you pick and choose your "assignments". Id rather have the feeling of behind handed orders to carry out. Personal flavor thing i guess.

Personaly I think the Patrol grids are over rated. Boring as hell. I prefer freelancing it. More so if your taking a Type XXI out in 1939. A patrol grid sorta becomes redundant. :)

Where the XXI is concerned, ill agree to that. If your using that boat in 1939, a patrol grid is a moot point no matter how you look at it.

Cdre, speaking of 1939...A question out of the blue. Is there any way to attach a double DG of a DD to any human playable u-boat? I was thinking a mod about the U-cruiser. Is this possible?
If you're not familiar with u-cruisers:
Type XI U-cruisers
Huge U-boats, designed in 1937-1938, with 4 127mm deck guns ( ) in two gun-towers (one fore and aft of the conning tower). 6 torpedo tubes (4 in the bow and two at the stern, all below the CWL). One Ar 231 small aircraft in a watertight 2.6m in diameter container shaft. These boats were to have a crew of about 110 men almost double that of any constructed German U-boat. 4 contracts (U-112 thru U-115) were awarded to the AG Weser yard in Bremen on Jan 17, 1939 but wisely cancelled at the outbreak of war in September that year

Ok heres the deal. No NON Sub Gun can be used on a PCO (Player Controled Object - meaning Human player sub)
NON Sub Gun - Any weapon mount that is NOT part of Sub_Gun.dat. So there for if it comes off an AI Boast, you cant use it. Ohh it can be mounted an hell it will even track a target, BUT it will be reported as destroyed and your crew wont man it.
However something close is sorta possible. BRB, need to close Campaign and take a SS for you.

Pretty sure that was an IXD2, you can tell by looking at the sides of the boat, as the tanks there stick out farther then a standard IX.

Both are player controlable, However the Stern DG is the only 1 that your crew will show up on. Dont panic, you crew still fire both, just only man 1 ! Its a bug :lol:

Yep, but it can be done to any Type IX Boat.

Thats a Walrus Seaplane, Its from Serg's Seaplane mod (My idea tho, I asked him for em. He did a bloody good job hey!)

Simulate ! Why would I simulate a larger round when I could use a larger round. I wouldnt tho, because then ALL 105cm DG would be firing say the 16inch shell. ( I did do that 1's, was intersting. ;) )

Yep, but beware that you will loose a boat (the above was the Type IXD2 1944 Boat). I still want to try cloning it and make it a better boat. You see when you launch with this boat you will get an error msg say FlackGun N° 3 destroyed, but flackgun 3 is the Stern DG. Then to top it off, you crew will only appear on the Stern DG not the front 1 but they still fire both. Then your 2 remaining flack guns in the crew compartment will only accept 2 crew members, but you have the slots for 4. Unlike the DG's tho, your crew will show up on BOTH flack guns even thou you cant get all the crew in there, and fire them just fine. So yeah, shes a lil buggy. I still intend to refine her but its not high on my list of things to do atm.
So now you know all its bugs, you still want it ?

Will do some work myself. Will fix the .sim file as per the "original" U-cruiser: 26 kn surface speed etc. It should be very slow undereater and terrible turn radius.
If this was actually built, it would have become a DC and airplane magnet...
Anyway, I'm all bandwidth and waiting.
It would be a nice opportunity to try to pass the Gibraltar straits surfaced; and having the chance to fight back. I remember Ducimus said that a while ago. Nice concept for a single mission.
And I almost forgot it; I'll take it with the 127mm shells option. I think I'll simulate the twin guns (there were 4 of them on the XI U-cruiser) by applying 1 second reload time (or even less).
I think that at least 2-3 hardcore realism simmers must have fainted or died while reading this thread :-j

Well thats gonna be a tad difficult, since atm all it is, is a Basic.cfg tweak. :)

Not with my version of SHIII you wouldnt. Not even if it did have the correct Gun Mounts.

Umm you can only have 105mm Ammo, Its not the SUB that determins the ammo, its the DG its self. IF I changed it to use say 16" Ammo and gave it a 0 reload time, then all boats that mount the 105mm DG would get the same as above. Not good.

Goto the Year 1944 (the reason I chose the 1944 boat rather than the 42,43 an 45 boat is ppl usually tends to keep 1's original boat and the 44 is about the same as the 45 so you wont really miss it). Select the entire 1944 entery, paste.
3. Copy the lines below:

4.Go further down your Basic.cfg file until you find the S01-S03 entery's. Select all the S01-S03 settings, paste. Save.
5.Start game, Launch a SP map. Select the Type IXD2 1944 boat. Have fun.
When you want to go back to your campaign game. Save the Basic.cfg file to a folder named U-Cruiser. Then copy paste your original backed up Basic.cfg back into SH3/Data/CFG folder. Now your good to go in your campaign.
Eventually I hoped to clone a sub and do a more permenate solution and maybe address some of the bugs.

Surface speed 26 kn
Submerged speed 5,5 kn
Submerged range 30 nautical miles @4kn
But on the surface... :rock:
This u-boat would have success in 1940 only if it could coordinate a tight small wolfpack (1 U-cruiser, 3 VIIBs). Something like a U-hunter killer group. The VIIBs would go for the DDs first and then the U-cruiser would surface.... :rock:
