View Full Version : PREMIERE: The biggest free game-addon ever...

terrapin

...produced and distributed over the Internet, the

Grey Wolves Supermod

will see the light of day now very soon. What's coming to you anytime now are 6 large files. We're talking about 681 MB
highly compressed freeware. The 2.800 files altered by GW consume uncompressed more than 1,8 Gigs on your harddisk.

The Grey Wolves Supermod is the largest freeware add-on
for a game ever distributed over the internet.

I'm very proud to be able to be a part of this premiere. All this reminds me of the long-gone days of the Falcon 4 modding scene.

GW Project Manager Kptn. Lehmann, who's away right now privately, authorized me to announce the release of GW.

I will do this in this thread - very soon. Rest assured, we're not talking about weeks or days, but hours.

CU and thanks for your support!

Naturally not - but for me (who's job in this community is mainly to distribute files) it's just one more remarkable aspect of this release... ;)

Joel Bierling wrote it...its f4Patch installer and people just rename it to whatever patch they are making for falcon...his site is here:

http://www.bierling.net/joel/index.htm?http://www.bierling.net/joel/pages/f4patch/f4patch.htm

I always thought something like this should be made for sh3...I saw it coming the day people started modding for this game....and now that its up to the 2 gig mark...I think its time to contact joel...haha

When you say 6 large files does this mean we have choices to what we can DL. I dont know if i read right, but if this mod has gramophone files, saving the large DL i could instead miss them out and just DL the rest :hmm:

Either way, i'll still DL it :-j

Wow, I had no that we had altered 2,800 files.

Until Terrapin told me earlier today, I had no idea that we had reached a point where it became "the largest freeware mod ever."

Our only size limitation that we had in mind while building was to "Make sure they (the users) can fit it onto CD."

... and we decided to risk it and think big.

George Lucas was on my mind much of the time.

We wanted to build a mod where the player can just step into an epic and not leave without seeing something new or different each time.

Maybe even Tikigod will like it a little. :)

Hahaha, this is huge! If only the SHIII devs could see us now!

how are they going to fit it on 1 CD? CD's can only hold 700-800MB of data. You ae going to need 3 CD's for this mod. You missed your limit by a long shot....haha. 2 Gigs is today's average game install...not a mod...haha.....its going to require a DVD to backup...

I will definately like the dolphins and the bananas :rotfl:

The compressed files will all fit onto one standard 700mb data CD. :know:

I've already made two back-up disks/copies in case my PC decides to be done with my modding adventures. :|\

Nope... it is only compressed with 7zip which is freeware itself.

It is very easy to learn and use. I highly recommend it. You can find it here- http://www.7-zip.org/

The biggest free game-addon ever...produced and distributed over the Internet, the

"FS2004/FS2002/FS2000 70m Global Terrain Mesh for The Whole World.
Introduction These are scenery files for FS2004, FS2002 & FS2000. The entire landmass of the earth between 60°S and 60°N is covered in 682 geographical sections. The resolution of the source files is three arc-seconds. The terrain mesh is sampled at 70m. However, see the README for a discussion on the relative accuracy of the source data. These scenery files were generated from preliminary SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) data downloaded from ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/. The complete scenery set is about 8.27GB"

Nevermind, the second largest is nice as well :D

Really looking forward to trying GW, thanks a lot

Well, maybe we still happen to have the largest naval simulator freeware patch.

At any rate it was nice to be on top for a little while lol.

On the other hand, mesh files affect only one aspect of the game, while GW is a very complex add-on, changing practically everything in the game, so on my personal chart you're on the top:-)
