View Full Version : Converted Whale Factory Ship 1.1 Released - Upgrade

Here is a new version of the NCVW. I have fixed a few things:

- Both NYGM and NON-NYGM .zon files are included.

- One more 'new skin' made from other ships' combined skins (a kitbashed skin?). Maybe it's too red though...I don't have a shot yet.

- ID Image now with draft. I was sent a ID image from KptnLt Eric Karle with the zones on it, but they were actually still in the original places so I couldn't use it. :(

- NCVW_ge.log now with correct entries.

I really recommend that you upgrade from 1.0. Here is a link - it is also in my signature now.

Ok, one question, Is it necessary rollback SH3 Commander before I upgrade from 1.0? Or can I ignore it?

It shouldn't affect anything else - just replace the current folder NCVW with the one in this release. And if you are using NYGM, make sure to use the appropriate .zon file which has been included.

Now it's suddenly unavailable - Techinical Maintenence or something.

EDIT: - Never mind, it's working again.

I have now uploaded the NCVW on FileFront, if anyone would like to download it there. I haven't submitted it to FileFront though, because I am not sure if they would want a Kitbash in their own archives. :-?

I improved the pages of the recognition manual.

Fixed the shadowing and water reflection, plus you have the low contrast version.

Wow, thanks.

How did you do those reflections - I managed to fix the draught but I couldn't figure those out. I assume you used Paint Shop Pro - I don't have that but I have a lot of others including ArcSoft Photo Suite.

Nope, I use my old and trusty Photoshop. Paint Shop I never heard of it.

All I did is to copy the angles and paste it right on it.then I fliped the layer and squeeze it a bit. Then I set the opacity at 30~40% and apply a gradient mask on that layer.

:hmm: I see. I believe at least some of those options may be included in ArcSoft. I will have to try later if I release another ship.

By the way, AG124, you'll be delighted to know that this monster actually does show up in the campaign, in case you weren't sure.

I sunk one last night...........very pleasing.

Nearly had a heart attack when I saw it though.

Yeah AG124, I sent one to the bottom last night as well. 2 fish and it rolled over and slipped beneath the waves

:P That's great to know. I was beginning to worry.

I haven't had time to play lately because of university work. The spare time that I have managed to find was spent getting the NCOT and NCVW ready for release. Someday I will get to sink one of my own ships in a campaign...

Has the Coastal Tanker shown up yet in a campaign?

I don't know what it is about this Rapid share stuff?
It is hit and miss for functioning on my end.
All I know is that your links will not work for me, is there someone who has these mirrored on a normal FTP site that doesnt have all the rapid share restrictions?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

BTW - Iambecomelife, I remember when you made an excellent skin for Chris 9/11's Ceramic Liner. I was wondering if you had time to try to make a couple of skins for the NCVW. If you are too busy, then that is OK but if you can it would be cool. I could include them in the next release (giving you credit for them) or you could include them in the MVP or release them separately.

What changes have been made to the NYGM compatible .zon file?
Do you only have to change hitpoints or is there more to do?

I´d like to to the modification for other extra units as well but don´t know what has to be done to the zon files.
Thanks in advance and keep up the great work on extra ships!

The NYGM zone file only has more HP's than the stock one. There are no other changes, but that should help a lot anyway. :yep:

I'd be happy to, but I recently suffered a major setback in my modding - see the New Ships sticky for details. Once I've recuperated I'll be happy to help - I found the prewar schemes for some whaling companies in a couple of ID books.

BTW, check your PM.

Don't worry about it - I just read the 'Mod requests..ship' thread. Don't see a PM yet though - I'll give it a minute.

Check the 'Mod Request...' thread.

Some preliminary info I've gathered for skins: the "Southern Princess" class factories would have been painted grey w/ white deckhouses and tan funnels. Another major company (Southern Whaling?), had black hulls with green waterline paint. Still looking for info on the Kosmos II's company, although they had grey for their ships' hulls. I'll give this a try after I reinstall all my drivers & software. As a plus, the funnel on the parent unit allows for logos without repetition problems like on the T-3 and coastal merchant stacks.

As with most ships I'd imagine these colors would have been painted over by mid-late 1940 with an overall grey camo scheme.

AG124,

Can you say a few words on how the damage model of the Converted Whale Factory Ship was taken care of? What was the parent ship? Did the hull was changed in any way, scaled etc.? Were other imported objects aligned with respect to damage zones so that there is no mis-alignment when gunning them down? Or was the ZON file adjusted to fit the new 3D profile (if necessary)? Maybe it is a good idea to provide such an info for other ships upon their release.

I've noticed that on the Improved Recognition Manual mod the pages are bright (like on the 1st image above) though the border area are low contrast. Will this file make the whole page 'low contrast' and is it compatable with IUB 1.03, it's patch w/ the low contrast scope/uzo option and Improved Recognition Manual mods (which are the only ones I'm using), and if so, would I be correct in saying that it would be extracted into the Improved Recognition Manual mod within the SHIII Mod folder?

Yes, the darker ID image provided here by JonZ will give you an entire low-contrast page. To use it, place it in the NCVW folder (replace the file that is there already. :yep:

Here are the low contrast pages for all of AG-124's released ships, that I posted elsewhere a few days back:

I know about that - the same problem exists for all of the ships I have released. I haven't adjusted some of the weapons nodes yet. That will be fixed next month, hopefully.
