I loaded up the game and went into career mode. I loaded up one of my careers in port, went to hand out awards to the crew and they were all gone - not a single seaman was left. All my officers, petty officers and seamen were gone. :o :o :o :o :o :o

What happened to them?

Is there a hot brothel in town? Seriously, I've never heard of this happening. I know SH3 Commander has an option where a single crewmen will be transferred ashore or to another boat. But not the crew wholesale. :-?

Perhaps you can start a recruitment drive.

I encountered something kinda similar in a previous campaign. It was actually three bugs in the same mission (SH3 1.4b vanilla):

At the beginning of the patrol I had to switch bases from Kiel to St. Nazaire. The first bug I noticed, after completing my patrol just South of Ireland, was that St. Nazaire wasn't on the map. This was kind of disconcerting but running on fumes at that point I decided diverting to Brest (which fortunately was on the map) was probably necessary anyway (or so I told myself at the time).

Second bug: I noticed while at Brest (anyone else have to keep backspacing the 'a' when they type that word?) that my crew had earned a bunch of medals, promotions, etc and as per usual because Brest wasn't home base I couldn't hand them out there but when I finally reached St. Nazaire (which was now on the map) the medals and promotions were gone. And lastly (the third bug) so was one of my officers. The best part of this last bug was that not only was he gone, but it still showed my officers as 5 of 5 so I couldn't even fill his slot with someone else (though this reassured me that at least he hadn't absconded with our medaks and promotions).

Anyway I persevered onward, hoping that it'd all sort itself out after completing a patrol from my new home base only to lose the boat and the crew. Only no bug this last time, rather the result of Herr Kaleun's over aggressiveness near Scapa Flow combined with another dose of bad luck.

IIRC The port is there, it just doesn't show on the map. This was discussed a long time ago and my memory isn't what it used to be. As for the second bug: I've done the medal/promotions while docked at a resupply ship. Either way, if you don't hand them out you lose them. They don't carry over to the next patrol.

Well as has been said, I have an invisible officer. The crew screen says I have 5/5 but there is only 4 that I can see. And the nerve of him, he still takes his beer ration.

As for losing your entire crew, well that's just downright carelessness. Head back to port, I'll bet you'll find them standing on the dock scratching their nadgers, wondering where the Kaleun has gone

This happens if you leave an officer in the repair station when you exit/finish your patrol.

Okay well either the bug was that it wouldn't let me hand them out at Brest, which I had tried to do, or (as I thought) I could only hand medals out at home base - only when I got there they were gone. Either way there was a bug there somewhere (one of many in that campaign).

That explains what happened to my invisible officer (bug 3 of 3) as I remember encountering a lot of DDs in my patrol grid, and not being aware of this "feature", must have left one of my repair officers in damage control when I docked. This is good to know since now I can avoid it happening again - thanks for the heads up!
