View Full Version : Getting back into it - Link to Basic Manual Targeting Doc??

My skills are a bit rusty and my manual targeting is pretty bad. Specifically, I seem to have a problem w/ target speed estimation - I get some wild results (29 kts for a medium cargo ship). Although this may be related to faulty range estimates.

Anyone have a link to basic procedures that work well?

Thanks,
Barkhorn.

Use nomograph & stopwatch or 3 min 15 sec rule. I'm playing at 100% realism and using nomograph for speed estimation - almost 100% accurancy.

Thanks guys - good info. One more - dumb - question: Which one of the tools is the nomograph and how does one use it?

Thanks,
Barkhorn.

If you have an S-gerät you´ll get a pretty good range estimate if target within 4000 m. Two measuring points with dist/bearing + 3m15s OR using the "U-boat Sonar Operator´s Manual" by "Grey Rider" and "Cpt. Nautilus".
Here you can determine speed by counting rpm:s over 15 sec.
There is even charts over how to shoot without periscope just using sound. (Of course you have to make one ID determining type of ship first but the tahts all).

I dont remember the link but I can mail you the document.
