Hello,

Is it possible to make and run another installation of SH3 in the same drive and the same OS?

My goal is to run NYGM mods without interferring my IuB settup.

Yes it is, I currently run 4 versions.

My setup is as follows, I installed and patched to 1.4b so that I had a clean base, renamed it. I then copied it as mentioned, 4 times.

I have...
SilentHunterIII NYGM
SilentHunterIII NYGM DEV
SilentHunterIII NYGM HT
SilentHunterIII NYGM SD II

Now you can run each version as is, but I prefer to do a quick rename back to SilentHunterIII. This is being pedantic, but it is just so I can be 100% on which version I am working with.

The clean base means it takes about 5 minutes, by the time it copies the 2Gb of data to have a SHIII install ready to put a mod over.

I hope this helps.

So it doesn't depends on installation registries?

I could make 4 differents shortcuts on the desktop and point them on the 4 differents installs?

Probably yes. I do that for Rome: Total War (I have four different RTW games running different mods)

Probably not. I prefer the renam setup as it does take 2 seconds to do and then I am sure.

However, You could always make additional registry values.

This is the registry value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter III]
"InstalledPath"="C:\\Program Files\\Ubisoft\\SilentHunterIII\\"
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Ubisoft\\SilentHunterIII\\sh3.exe"

I would see no reason adding a 2nd value would cause an issue. Copy into Notepead and then save as InsertName.reg. When you double click on it it will install. No reboot required.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter III]
"InstalledPath"="C:\\Program Files\\Ubisoft\\SilentHunterIII NYGM\\"
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Ubisoft\\SilentHunterIII NYGM\\sh3.exe"

I wouldn't mess with the registry. I have a few installs. If I want to run one, I just go to that folder and double click the executable.

I tried the cloned folder method, it works very well.

Except for one thing, they use the same SH3 folder in MyDocuments.

That can be a pain in the @$$ when I test a campaign with SH3 Commander.

Something I miss?

I do the same thing as Der Teddy Bar with one exception - I no longer rename the folder before running, because I use SH3Cmdr. If you use SH3Cmdr you can set up shortcuts to your SH3Cmdr.exe file using the /l switch to point to each individual SH3 installation and SH3Cmdr will do the rest. For example,

"C:\<installpath>\SH3 Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\UbiSoft\SilentHunterIII NYGM"
"C:\<installpath>\SH3 Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\UbiSoft\SilentHunterIII NYGM DEV"
"C:\<installpath>\SH3 Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\UbiSoft\SilentHunterIII NYGM HT"
etc, etc, etc

Obviously name the shortcuts respectively.

Curiously, why is it a problem having all careers save to the same "My Documents" folder? You still just choose the one you want with the installation you want? Anyway, what I tend to do from time to time is to copy, paste and rename careers so I can test with other installations.
