I´m planning on starting a new campaing in Close Combat 5 and if it´s alright, I´d like to post my progress here.

Mods are free to move this to the games section. The reason I post this here is that who reads the games section anyway!? :D

Mods, let me know if I can give it a go!

This is how my progress reports would look like:

Ok, here we go then.

Mods used: GJS 4.4 (allied campaing played as Brits and Canadians instead of Americans)
Player: Allies
AI: German
Time limit: 15min
No morale

June 6 1944 Morning
Juno Beach
Germans: I./736 716.DIVISION
Allies: 8th BDE/3rd CND

Not much happened on this battle. I had tanks, they didnt. But they sure did make it
clear to us that they wont give up so easily. I though they´d defend, but instead they
attacked on full force.

My Troops
http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/6476/1troops7fj.jpg

Ordered a naval barrage to suspected AT gun position, which earlier immobilised one
of my Shermans.

This building was the main objective for me, and it seems that it was for Germans too.
When the battle was over, ten men were killed and eight were seriously wounded defending,
which was now only a pile of bricks. German lost ~20 men while trying to capture the building.
http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/4725/3building5ab.jpg
http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/7462/4building0ze.jpg

Germans used most of their men in trying to capture the center building, so after they were annihilated, the rest of the victory locations were captured quickly.

Debriefing
The germans really gave me something to think about. Will the resistance be as strong in
every sector?

Another rather straight forward sector. I had tanks, they had two AT guns and basic infantry. No match for the shermans.

My Troops
http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/5026/1troops1ph.jpg

Enemy attacked in three waves. Their main wave attacked the center of the village. Flamethrower and a Bren squad took care of them.
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/2562/2center1lf.jpg

The second wave was sent to capture the bunker in southwest side of the village. I had no defence there so the enemy managed to capture the bunker. Later I sent my Shermans and some infantry to capture it back. This is the aftermath shot of the battle.
http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/6831/3southwest0td.jpg

The third wave consisted of only one grenadier squad, which most likely tried to flank my center troops. Platoon leader squad killed them in a blink of a eye.

"There was the stench of blood in my nose, enough to make my stomach heave, and the grass in front of me was stained dark red, and scorched."
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1664/5overview5yz.jpg

Debriefing
Another easy one. 14 dead against the 36 dead germans + 2 AT guns.

This game is the second best in the series after CC2: A Bridge Too Far.

I didn't knew that mod was ready, I'll have to grab my CD and see if I can make this game run without crashing too much.

Nice AAR.

Next is the Periers Ridge, sector just west of the Sword Beach. The area is surrounded with hedgerows. Small village in the center of the map and a church to the north. Enemy is holding the church and it´s surroundings.

I have to advantage carefully here, intel says that the Krauts have some AT guns here.

My plan is to slowly advance towards the church and secure the road and the buildings surrounding the road.

The red area is my objective, black is in enemy hands.

My troops attacking the road from east.
http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/7650/3eastattack8mw.jpg

The church was heavily defended and my troops suffered heavy casualties, resulting in retreat of one squad.
http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/5654/4eastretreat3kp.jpg

Enemy launched an attack towards the village through the forest south of the church. After fierce fight, the enemy retreated with heavy casualties.
http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/7005/5centerattack3ms.jpg

Germans were about to launch a counter-attack to capture back the road, I quickly ordered an airstrike which halted the attack.
http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/1922/6airattack5lx.jpg

Debriefing
I was unable to secure the forest southwest of the church as germans had it covered with two AT guns. We´ll rest for awhile before making a new attack.

I agree that the CC2 is the best in the series. Too bad I dont have it! :nope:

I highly recommed to download the GoldJunoSword4.4, great mod!

Did you know, that they are making a new CC? Close Combat: Red Phoenix. It´s going to be strategic war game, not another shooter like First to Fight. Not much info of the Red Phoenix yet.

Was Close Combat First to Fight the FPS version a take off from the CC series? I played it and it was bad, im sure it was a console port.
I remeber playing the first CC that came out and was hooked on it for about 2 yrs.

It struggle on my pc at the time, but i still played it.

Yes, First to Fight was the FPS. I´ve never been more disappointed than when I learned that it´s going to be a FPS.

-"PANZERS!"

What would be a better start for a day, than an enemy armored assault to your positions?

I have one advantage on this map: I am defending with tanks in a terrain which has multiple ambush points.

My primary objective is to hold the following positions (marked in red):
A) The road to Buron
- I only ordered one infantry squad and one Churchill AVRE inf. support tank to secure it. The enemy is likely to get a proper foothold of the area before attacking to this position.

B) Crossroad
- This is vital for the paratroopers guarding the Pegasus bridge, just south of Benouville. Two Bren squads ordered here.

C) Chateau Benouville
- If I´m right, this will be the first position the enemy will attack. If germans get this position, they have a strong foothold of the south section of the map. One firefly and squad of Royal Marines hold the compound, while a DD Sherman guards the flank.

Secondary objective is to secure the forest, just north of the Chateau Beuville. (Marked blue in the map)

http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/5023/2objectives7zb.jpg

The battle starts with silence. Usually the enemy assaults in the first 30 seconds. Maybe I was wrong, maybe they do attack the north position first! I immediatly order the AVRE to blow up the nearby building, so the enemy cant sneak his troops into it.
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/311/3avre9po.jpg

Suddenly I spot a movement in the forest, north of the Chateau. Firefly fires a couple of rounds in the general direction and scores a direct hit to an enemy light tank.
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/5095/4firsttank4tb.jpg

Then, two german tanks roll in to the entrance of the compound. The other is destroyed by the DD Sherman on the right flank and the other is damaged by the Firefly. The crew of the damaged german tank, identified as Panzer IVH, realise their situation and surrender.
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/5973/5secondtanks5rw.jpg

During the tank battle, german infantry sneaked into the compound and started fierce attack against the Royal Marines. Yet again, our 'Guardian angels' saved the day. The marines quickly secured the compound, shooting everything that moved. Nasty fellows.
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2996/6airattack5pj.jpg

After the attacks were repelled, I made it clear to my troops that, if we want to hold the sector in the future, the forest must be secured. The Royal Marines took the lead, under cover of the smokescreen they hastily crossed the road and took positions in the hedgerows. Plantoon HQ, took part to the attack by securing the eastside of the forest.
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/4941/7forest16pd.jpg

The forest was soon secured and the germans launched the anticipated counter-attack to take it back. Thanks to the Firefly, which destroyed another german light tank and shot most of the advancing infantry, the forest was held.
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/8225/8forestheld1rs.jpg

Debriefing
I was surprised on how this worked out. The germans sent their tanks to attack without any support from the infantry. With infantry supporting the tanks, we now could be walking towards the german lines with hands up and white flags flying. This must be one of my most succesfull battles I´ve ever played.

A little update on my current situation. I though that the AI was too easy, so I downloaded the VetMod. The mod makes the AI more challencing and gives them bigger teams and more weapons to teams (e.g. Mortar team now has two mortars in it, instead of one.). The mod is doing it´s job alright! :damn:
