I just downloaded Hollywood's Damage mod. Custom made a scenario to test various SH III systems.

Had a type VIIC/42 about 200nm west of Gibraltar the year: 1944 ....checking a possible bug in NYGM crew management mod...turns out when snorkeling, the diesel crew does not fatigue.....

Anyway, Im traveling towards Gibraltar at snorkel depth at 256x listening to Lilly Marlene on the Gram when all a sudden I get a message that were taking damage. I quickly reduce time compression...don't know why it did not stop at 1x.... I then check the crew/damage screen and I have a totally destroyed Radio shack and Hydrophone...also, some systems on the bridge are gone... mine? aircraft? .....boat is sinking fast.....75m...100m. I order ahead flank to stop the death dive....no effect.. Chief and full repair crew in the DC to control the flooding in the forward compartment.....the forward battaries are damaged, Im only doing 3kn at flank :( the depth gage is reading 150m...175m.... Ok...gotta hit the chicken switch..blow all tanks....no effect...still in the death dive... guage is now beyond 250m....It looks like I am gonna die..

I try one last time with the chicken switch....depth guage 310m!! :o

finally, the chief got some of the flooding under control! I am starting back up......batteries are now somewhat repaired and I am making 5kn at flank.
compressed air is down to 10%, but the worst is over.....I stop emer surface at 25m to assess damage. Attack periscope destroyed. Radio and Hydrophones are destroyed. Radar Warning device destroyed. Snorkel damaged, Observation periscope is damaged, probably flak gun damage also, As I am blind and deaf, I have no choice but to surface... nothing there topside, so I get the chief to repair the snorkel and the observation periscope....after about ten minutes, I can proceed at snorkel depth :yep:

This seems to vindicate the Hollywood damage mod. I don't think that this detailed damage is possible with the stock SHIII. Pretty awesome

Went back over the logs...still never figured out what hit me..???? I think the problem was that I did not have a radio operator on duty :88) I can't think of any other reason why I did not get any warning.....or why game did not go to 1x TC.... :hmm:

It was probably a mine. I had the same experience going through the English Channel once. Sudden uncontrolled flooding out of the blue....and then disaster. Sunk and then the death screen. No more Channel runs for me. :(

...turns out when snorkeling, the diesel crew does not fatigue..... :huh:Well in a way, it makes sense as the snorkel provides fresh air for the engine and some can be redirected towards the engine room leaving the crew with fresher air.:|\ :88)

Now if the game or mod does that by design, I do not know. However, if it is a bug, well, its nice bug… ;)

Actually snorkels often made the air worse. Fumes from the diesel engines inevitably seeped into the rest of the sealed and submerged ship causing headaches. The snorkels often 'dunked' causing the engines to draw air from inside the sub wreaking havoc with air pressure and eardrums. Snorkel use should probably double the rate of crew fatigue. They should also make the hydrophones useless as the din from the diesels made it impossible to hear anything else. Yet my hydrophone operator still picks up propeller noises fine while running the snort. However, as a virtual U-Boat captain I'll take any break the game system gives me. ;)

Also using Advanced Holywood Damage.

I had a similar hair raising experience. Running at 40 meters, I took a direct hit by a DC, flooding heavily on stern torpedo room and engine of my IXB. It started listing backwards and I hit flank achieving only 4 kn, because one engine was destroyed; then started plunging down...

When I reached 145 meters I hit blow ballast once and just in time my second engine was back online. Flooding was not. Stabilized at 140 meters between a barrage of DCs...Juggling the crew between compartments was obligatory.

Finally I stopped flooding, ejected a bold countermeasure, and crept away...

Rules!
I've had some patrols that made "Das Boot" pale in comparsion!

Nerve whackin' and thrillin in the midst of four DC spillin' ships!

And just because i nailed 4 ships in a smal convoy. 4 hours (real time) of neverending suffering!
The mod simply puts the game into a totally different dimension!
I will think twice of hunting in the British Channel.

Kudos to all the modder!
